Description

The resulting artifact of my exploration is a simple clock that provides an alternative expression of time. Using location-specific sunrise and sunset data, this unique timepiece automatically sets itself to reflect the current measure of daylight. When the sun is set, the hand rests in the twelve position; when the sun rises, it begins its journey around the clock. As such, the dial has a quick rotation in the winter, and is much slower in the summer. For me, this design object is an invitation to cultivate a deeper awareness and gratitude for sunlight, and a reminder to enjoy the passing light of each day. With this unique daylight timepiece, each day is a new opportunity to celebrate the sun, the season, and the present moment.
