$WEAT is a smart garment that tracks sweat output level and assigns it a monetary value based on the wearer's socio-economic status.
Description
$WEAT imagines an alternate future where biometrics gathered through wearable devices are directly translated into monetary value. Businesses use this currency system to either charge clients for services or pay employees for their labor. $WEAT level tracked on a branded gym shirt is used to charge the wearer a gym fee, or vice versa; $WEAT level tracked on a migrant worker’s shirt equals the pay he/she receives.
$WEAT calls attention to the importance of viewing biometrics in variable contexts and the need to include under-represented communities in our vision of the technological future.
