Human Wind Chime

An eerily entrancing light and sound sculpture, reminiscent of an oversized wind chime that responds to human touch.

Introduction to Physical Computing

Twenty five 4 inch polypropylene balls, each containing a super bright white LED, are installed in a spiral configuration. As the balls are tapped each corresponding piezo sensor sends a signal to the microcontroller, which in turn fades in the LED and plays the ball's unique sound. The pitch relates to the vertical height of that ball. Once the sound is played the LED fades back out - giving the piece a sense of breathing light and sound.
