Chat Charades

Grau Puche Recarens, Regina Cantu De Alba

Chat rooms provide the confort of annonimity, a confort that is most of the time used towards meeting new people, expressing ourselves…what if we used it to play charades with absolute strangers? Chat Charades provides the platform for Show attendees to do so.

Description

Chat charades is a chat application with live video feed created specially for this project.

As a derivative of our expirience with PopUp Windows -Metatorium-(see The Mirrors) we discovered how much easiier is for people to let themselves loose in front of a web cam than a stranger, so we decided to create a game in which two strangers could interact in this anonymity space.

The hardware is located in two separate rooms, in one of them there is a computer with the program habilitated, in the other there are two big screenns with a web cam attach. Te users come, decide upon a role (guess or act) and start playing, the setting gives immediate feedback when the keyword is guessed.

Glow Box

Michael Simpson, Yeseul Song

A light sculpture that is able to both absorb and reproduce a graphical image.

http://yeseul.com/Glow-Box

Description

Glow Box is a 3d printed and fabricated light sculpture hanging in mid-air. A graphical image generated in real-time is projected on one side of the object. The image illuminates the object and then is reproduced on another side of the object. A matrix of fiber optics embedded in the object allow the object to be functioning as an analog screen. On display is a visualization of solution space solving XOR problems using neural network.

The project needs to be placed in a dark space. For the installation plan, please see the sketch attached in this submission (installation-plan.jpg).

Transmotion

Barak Chamo

Transmotion is an experiment in capturing the essence of meaning and emotion. A narrator and mechanical performer that capture the beauty of poetry in motion.

https://barakchamo.com

Description

Transmotion is an attempt to capture the emotion and beauty of poetry and translate it, by means of mechanical interpretation and conversion, into machine performance. The apparatus is seeded with human input, beautiful pieces of poetry, and I want to know wether it is capable of evoking the same sense of expression and emotion.

The selected poems are processed through sentiment analysis to extract the affective score of parts of the text. It is then read by a mechanical text-to-speech synthesizer and sent, word-by-word, to the robotic performer. The performer receives each word in time and interprets it into 3-axial movement.

Is there a connection between the text and the motion, between the poet's intention and the machine interpretation, and are performative automata capable of capturing and conveying human emotion?

Presence

Dan Oved

Presence is a kinetic sculpture that reveals features where a user is gazing.

https://oveddan.github.io/blog/tags/presence/

Description

Our eyes directly represent our presence and focus. The installation uses novel research in computer vision to detect where a user is gazing, and coalesces detail in that direction. It will encourage the user to stay focused and present by rewarding them with animations that become more pronounced the longer they look at a point.
