Description

In 1945, Vannevar Bush, a defense engineer, hypothesized about a 'memex' or 'memory extender' machine, detailing how it could provide humans with an “enlarged intimate supplement to one's memory”.

Memix embraces the technical aspects of Bush's ideas, but rejects the idea that troves of easily consumed media can be considered an 'intimate supplement to one's memory'. By remixing images considered precious memories, it attempts to show how 'messier' recall of memories is more beautiful, intimate, and more akin to our memory recall.

I ran the program on my own precious memories, the thousands of images from the year of planning, travel, traditions and festivities that was my big Indian marriage. (July 2013 to July 2014)
