NIME Day One: Intro to New Interfaces for Musical Expression
A crash course in the invention of new kinds of musical instruments and the creative potentials for using them in live performance
We'll cover an overview of the ideas around New Interfaces for Musical Expression and watch some videos of performances from past ITP NIME shows.
There will be an optional homework assignment: Build a musical instrument and prepare a one minute performance! Performances will be held during NIME Day Two: Perform Some Music! Play Your One Minute Compositions! on Tuesday, June 19, 7-9pm
NIME is a course that's been running at ITP for almost 20 years. This session will mirror the course's first class session where we introduce the concepts and set everyone out to build a musical instrument in one week with (almost) no constraints!
Quick Introductions to:
* how sound works
* how music works
* how performance works
