ITP, IMA and IMA LowRes make up our very large, shared community. It’s an open and inviting community and we support having visitors who are guests in a class, outside speakers or colleagues or friends coming for a tour. In order to ensure that resources are available to the community, it is important to remember that visitors are not granted carte blanche access to our space – we have specific guidelines and policies designed to safeguard the community and ensure visitor safety.
This updated policy reflects both NYU’s policy and procedures and ITP/IMA’s Departmental requirements.
Community members are responsible for the behavior of their guest(s) at all times. If a guest’s presence creates a disturbance or disruption, they may be asked to leave the premises by an authorized staff member. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action against the community member who invited the guest.
Additionally, failure to follow these guidelines risks revocation of your visitor access privileges and could result in your own loss of access to departmental resources and tools.
Visitor Access must be arranged in advance using NYU’s JRNY System
The NYU JRNY Policy for Visitor Access:
- “Check with the school or department administration for the buildings or activities to which you want your visitor to have access before completing this form. Additional School or building-specific visitor policies may apply.”
- “If the activity takes place in an NYU building, student and summer associate sponsors must greet visitors at the entrance, escort them while inside the building, and ensure they exit the building at the end of their visit.”
Department Policy for ALL Visitors:
- Visitors DO NOT have access to departmental resources like the Shop, ER, Design Lab, Coding Lab, Doc Lab, Hyper Lab or Media Commons
- Equipment cannot be borrowed in your name and lent to a visitor
- For liability reasons, visitors and guests cannot use tools from the Shop unless an arrangement has been made in advance with the Fabrication Manager or the Associate Director of Technical Operations
- Visitors cannot use our space while unattended by their sponsor
- JRNY passes should not be used for long term or repeated access to the department – the department is not a co-working space for visitors – this includes reserving classrooms, phone booths, huddle rooms or other departmental spaces for visitors to use unsupervised.
