Description

My project creates an experience of manipulating with the spaceship to wander around the universe and explore diverse galaxies. Users mainly see through a small hole designed for their eyes. Meanwhile, users mainly interact with one joystick to control the direction of the scope, and with the other one, users can target at different galaxies, press the joystick to get the color of the target, and the light in the box will change according. The light is changing as if you are entering the galaxy.

This project doesn't have some profound implication or meaning, just want to create a visually aesthetic enjoyment which is kind of similar to the concept of VR.

Description

The Light is a game in which players move their hands to control mirrors and change directions of light beams in a virtual space. There is a board with light sensors, and the shadows will form mirrors that reflect light beams, and the goal of the game is to reflect the light beam to a certain point. Arduino was used to sense the shadows and Processing was used to create the “virtual space”.

A fortune-telling origami game.

Description

东南西北 refers to an origami game that I used to play when I was a kid.

This project is aiming at expressing a kind of nostalgia and share old happiness with my audience. During my further research, I found out that this origami game has some fortune-telling meaning in some Western cultures. Therefore, I created an interactive experience in which the audience can ask any question, and the origami will offer the answer. I was trying to rebuild my memory of those good old days with new ideas of interaction based on the combination of different cultures.

Fountain of Interaction aims to redefine public space by bringing human body as means to interact with the fountain

Description

Modern interactive devices conquered our personal lives. Every time we leave our house, we double-check whether we have our phones with us – everyone’s nightmare is no longer a spider in a bed but phones with no charge. Yet, modern technologies of the 21st century often pay no attention to public spaces (they look exactly like 100 years ago). While thinking about a public space and what could be done about it, I came across fountains as they belong to the dominant features any city or town. Although fountains changed in the past, namely through “live performances” with music, an individual’s input and thus the interactive experience is unfortunately still absent.

Fountains are often beautiful addition in public spaces, yet not a very engaging one as everyone usually loses interest after a short time. Therefore, I decided to bring our public squares to the 21st century by proposing an interactive fountain. Anyone who passes by can interact with this fountain by moving their hands. The water streams then respond adequately by changing the angle of water, or water pressure. This is the Fountain of Interaction.

Raise awareness about the lack of resources brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of proper hand hygiene

Sense Dispenser Poster part 1 Poster part 2 Screen displays
https://youtu.be/wadIXHeFpvw

Description

The new normal brought about by COVID-19 includes contactless/touchless interaction and an abundance of hand sanitizers everywhere. Sense dispenser fuses these two aspects of the “new normal” into an interactive experience that aims to raise awareness about COVID-19 and some of its effects on society. Sense dispenser delivers this awareness to users when they go to take some sanitizer from a dispenser and end up not receiving anything. The failure to meet the user's need for sanitizer in that moment catches the attention of the user. The screen then shows the user a fact about COVID-19, a fact about hand hygiene, or informs the users about an effect COVID-19 has on society.

While user is working out on the treadmill, they can choose to exercise either by the lake or in the woods. They can make a choice on the treadmill panel in the starting page of my project. The user holds a device on their hand to detect whether he/she is walking or running. An accelerometer is placed in the device to test how fast the user is waving his/ her arm. If the devise decided that the user is walking, it will switch to the walking mode and the virtual scenery will play at a slower speed. If the devise decided that the user is running, it will switch to the running mode and the virtual scenery will play at a faster speed. If the user decided to change a location to run, they can press the return button and go back to the starting page to choose a new location.

Description

Racing Motorcycle is a game that aims to provide users an interesting interactive experience. Wearing a special helmet, users could control the motorcycle on the screen by tipping their heads to avoid the obstacles on the road and gain scores.

The project is based on the race games on the phone, where we turn the phone to control the direction of a car. However, Racing Motorcycle applies a new way of interaction. Controlling the motorcycle by tipping the head imitates the true situation when a motorcycle driver tips his body to change the direction. The design also makes the experience more interesting and unique.

Rules:

– Tip your head to left, right or upright direction to control the motorcycle and avoid the obstacles.

– Stay your head tipped to keep the motorcycle running in a certain lane.

– The longer you go through, the higher score you will get.

Description

This is a rhythm game created in Processing and can be played with four keys on a computer. It's my first attempt to create a computer game so it only has one half piece of music and the codes are messy. However, I still managed to realize as many rhythm game features as possible. For example, there are hit sounds and hit indications, combo number, score, grades, and the game reads the chart from a txt file. I will possibly continue this project in the future and eventually make it a mobile game for everyone to play.
