In Orbit

Ayal Rosenberg, Isabella Vento

An installation that provides a journey to the viewer into the illusion of "green" digital consumption.

https://burntt00thbrush.tumblr.com/post/173434479931/in-orbit-spring-show-proposal

Description

Orbiting, floating, hovering; this experience transports spectators to the future with the aid of projection mapping and the first-person narrative of a lone astronaut contemplating the love of his life which he has decided to leave behind in search of a better destiny.

Who is the love of his life? Do you hold her dear to your heart as well? In Orbit is an installation strives to tackle the emotional relationship that the human race has to the planet. It is under our impression that many struggle with their moral compass regarding their carbon footprint and the activities they execute in their life quotidian to aid its consequences. In a digital age, where screens become subject to most of our attention, have we lost our sensibility towards what powers them?

Plop

Plop is a physics based sound application used to generate unique musical scores based on sound synthesis and samples.

Description

Plop utilizes the matter.js library to employ a physics world where body collisions play a series of pre-recorded samples and synthesized sounds. The project is based entirely in javascript/p5js and was used in my final performance for Algorithmic Composition, accompanied by another Max based application that utilized algorithmic techniques.

Find out your primate identity by exploring how diet relates to brain size.

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1p9m–GDioOaEck2RyDgeK_TvUNypArtHtOGRHI604Dk/edit?usp=sharing

Description

Recent NYU research proposes that over evolutionary time, diet drives larger brain size in primates — not social pressures as originally thought. Learn how these findings might apply to humans, who like our primate cousins have exceptionally large brains, too! We will be exploring with a Brain interactive to have an introduction of the primates, and a Diet interactive as a fun game connected with Kinect to find out how primates find their food!

Description

Misundersthood is an interactive installation hoodie/narrative that addresses the issue of police brutality. Users will be instructed to place on a hooded sweatshirt (hoodie). Once the hood is flipped up, an audio clip will play. Users will then hear a story about a young black boy's encounter with a police officer. This piece aims to spark both an inner and outer dialogue with users and the public about the issue at hand. This project was inspired by an actual encounter I had with a police officer when I was thirteen years old.

Missing 10 Hours :: Multi-ending Social VR Piece

Fanni Fazakas, Huiyi Chen

Missing 10 Hours is a social VR experience that exposes realities that many are familiar with but not many talk about.

https://rumexinaction.com/work/#/226542492172/

Description

Missing 10 Hours is a social VR experience that exposes realities that many are familiar with but not many talk about.

The VR piece is part of a documentary project within a 23 year old girl K. is searching for her 10 stolen hours – supposedly caused by date rape drug – she discovers a far bigger issue than she originally thought.

GHB is a sneaky weapon, colorless, odorless. It is very difficult to find its traces as it leaves the body within hours, so a result, most of these cases stay unseen. Due to the lack of evidence, perpetrators don’t have to be afraid of being charged. Only a few drops is enough to knock you out, under its influence you become defenseless. And it has another dangerous side effect: it causes blackout.

Not knowing what happened can sometimes be worse than knowing because uncertainty contains all the horrible options.

With this VR piece we rebuilt the whole scene where this shady night happened in Aarhus Denmark. By experiencing K.’s night within a VR environment we hope the audience will gain a better understanding of the GHB issue and how is to be vulnerable in a situation like K’s.

Feel a Watt

Daniel Castano

What about if I tell you, earth consumes 18TW. Energy is a difficult concept to explain and more difficult to visualize. Feel a Watt! will help the users to sense the concept of energy in a better way by using data visualization, analogies and interactive simulators at real scale. The user will understand how a Watt, KiloWatt, MegaWatt or GigaWatt look like.

https://danielcastano.org/blog/2018/4/29/feel-a-watt

Description

Energy is everywhere: light, nature cycles, animals metabolism, electricity, heat, food, actions, everywhere. That’s why we have a bunch of different unities in order to measure it. However, do we have a notion what a Joule or Watt means? What about Kilo, Mega or Giga Watts?. “Feel a Watt” will show practical examples about energy consumption in order to give the user a notion of how much energy is around him/her and what are some cases in which the energy needed may surprise us.

Instead of using a linear rhythm the user will be tested before keep going with the explanation to ensure understanding and a two-way feedback. The project takes advantage of the VR environment to create impossible objects which belong to a fictional world but explain the real world. This way the user will face nuclear bombs, natural disasters, and huge phenomenon harmlessly

QWERTY SYSTEMS

Sam Hains

QWERTY SYSTEMS is a voice-controlled video installation depicting a mysterious platform intelligence that has hijacked our entertainment systems

http://samhains.com/blog/studio/2018/04/29/hypervirus-show-submission.html

Description

Consisting of a real-time, generative video system and a voice controlled interface – Hypervirus confronts the transformation of the internet into an algorithmic mirror of crowd behavior.

The Hypervirus narrative takes place on a 24/7 cable network called 'Echo' – an algorithmically generated network featuring news, memes, e-sports and healing.

By recycling, remixing and processing the internet in real-time, the system implies an alternate reality where the automation of concept and content has become a totality.

The use of generative content is intended to create a theatrical, dystopian lore in which each user experiences a unique mixture of planned and emergent interaction.

Through a series of diagnostic tests, announcements and voice interactions the user will attempt to identify and understand the virus that is destroying the network. However, in attempting to diagnose the 'virus' the distinction between them and the system begins to blur.

SOMATAROT

Inside the SOMATAROT experience, you process your reading through the embodied oracle dance guided by mysterious holographic sibyls.

http://alpha.editor.p5js.org/full/rky9RTwTM

Description

Bring your worries &/or curiosities to the SOMATAROT experience. The holographic readers will guide you through the embodied oracle dance. We enter into randomness’ mysterious guidance that has been called upon throughout time and cultures. “Soma” comes from the idea of Somatic therapy where our experiences, emotions and trauma are not only stored in our mind but throughout our body. Dance originated from ritual of movements used to metabolize energy within an individual and the collective. We interpreted the essence of each card and choreographed a movement phrase to express it. The user follows the card’s movement as the audio description of the card is played, providing the querent with a multi-sensory, embodied experience.
