PetGo

An application designed to provide tailored taxi service specifically for pets and pet owners

Xinye Jiang

https://wp.nyu.edu/xinyejiang/2020/05/12/ima-capstone-video-link/

Description

In 2019, China’s market for pet-related businesses generated a revenue of 190 billion yuan or 30 billion US dollars. At present, there is estimated to be 248 million pet dogs alone across the entire country. Chinese pet owners spend approximately 5000 yuan or 700 US dollars yearly on their pets. This presents a good opportunity for a pet-related business to establish itself. The project is an app that is centered around providing transport service that is centered around the convenience and safety of pets and pet owners. At present, ride-sharing apps like Didi do not have explicit policies about pets riding in their cars. Therefore, pet owners looking to travel with their pets are often faced with the inconvenience of having to communicate with the driver first which can be a complicated, anxiety-riddling, and stressful process. Some customers are flat out rejected, while some customers are asked to pay exorbitant fees to allow their pets to ride in the car. Some owners are concerned about the safety and comfort of their pets because they often have to adjust to the size of the car, instead of the other way around. This creates a unique opportunity to provide a transport service that will fill this potentially lucrative niche. The project, since it is similar to a ride-sharing app, will serve as an intermediary between drivers and customers. The goal is to ensure that both drivers and customers are happy with the price that is set for the service. Additionally, to add to the convenience of the customers, safety and comfort features for them and their pets will be provided in the form of pet car seats and pet safety belts. Some cars may also be fitted to have a bigger space for transport of large pets. Pet owners will not necessarily have to ride with their pets as the project is looking to partner with grooming and pet shops and veterinary services and hospitals to provide pet transport service for the convenience and safety of pets and their pet owners. Customers will be assured that their pets are safe because the service is ran by pet owners and is for pet owners.

King Arthur and His Son Mordred

The IF Story of King Arthur and Mordred suppose the battle of Camlann never happened

Xiaojie Gu

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fYb2Pg6uk7RMnm56lvuE85mT3LkfeOpd

Description

The two characters are from the Tale of King Arthur. The character in the front is King Arthur, while the character in the back is Mordred. In the original legend, Mordred was the son and nephew of Arthur and was born by Morgause, Arthur’s sister. Knowing that he was the bastard of the King, Mordred is always trying to crusade against Arthur. He managed to make himself King of Britain when Arthur was in France, and their armies fought each other at Camlann, which is known as the battle of Camlann. In the end, Mordred is dead, and he severely injured Arthur, which proclaimed the end of a dynasty.

In my automata, I create an if-story for Arthur and Mordred. If Mordred did not hate Arthur so much, one day they could sit down together, shake their hands, and defuse the hatred. So this is the scene that shows their charging posture in a battle, where they fight together against the enemy.

Empathetic Toys

These toys are designed to help children process their emotions.

Sarah Armstrong

https://youtu.be/__EY6gyqYk4

Description

I created a series of soft toys that represent the six basic emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, anger, and surprise. I made each one a different color, face, and pose to represent this emotion. Doing this, I made sure that the emotions are very distinct from each other. For packaging, I included a simple explanation of each emotion, so children will get a better understanding of how to express what they’re feeling. My ideal user for this project is children between the ages of 3-7 because these ages are key in social development. With these toys, I want to make sure children are able to express themselves and understand how others are feeling because of their understanding of the emotion.

Piggy(Pearl) on Palm

A piggy-like tumbler toy that also is a little night lamp as well as a container.

Yunyu Zhang

https://youtu.be/fFqHWttX2Qs

Description

The name of my project is called Piggy(Pearl) on Palm. I got the inspiration of its name from a Chinese idiom, which means something or someone is very precious like a bright pearl on the palm. And the pronunciation of the word “pig” is the same as that of the word “pearl”, so this project is a round little pig with a round light ball inside it. I made this for my mom because she likes piggies very much and she has also bought several piggy decorations to put them at home. My mom also likes matryoshka dolls very much and we have several of them at home as well. This toy is round and can sway like a tumbler. Also, being similar to the matryoshka dolls, it can be opened. There is a light ball inside it, making it a little night lamp as well. And if the light bulb or LED is taken out of the toy, it can also be a container to put something, such as candies inside. Because my mother also likes to buy various containers to keep things in order, this toy can also provide such a function for her.

Windows

A window frame made from scrap paper and recycled cardboard boxes, carries a courageous mission: to preserve and nurture someone's creativity during a time of crisis.

Son Luu

https://www.sonluu.com/stayhomestaycreative

Description

Windows bring light into a room. It's a place through which you look out to nature, to the outside environment to observe and seek inspirations while in your personal space. Responding to humans' desire to enjoy and interact with nature, “Windows” is meant to bring elements from the outside environment into an indoor space in hope of helping humans stay optimistic, and continue to be inspired and creative during a time of crisis. As limited resources as there seems to be, there might just be something for us to pick up to play with and create. Indeed, it is a critical time to stay inspired and creative as we're standing in between what we're seeing in the wold and what we're hoping for.

Hacking The Vinyl Cutter

Four projects created with the Cameo 4 vinyl cutter on everything but vinyl.

Aidan Fowler

https://vimeo.com/419435385

Description

When school went remote, ITP sent the subtraction students a Cameo 4 vinyl cutter. It was a godsend. I have been using it almost daily. In the past five weeks I have created a lamp with dichroic platonic solid filters and lenticular lens shades which presents the live colors from a times square webcam. Additionally, I vinyl cut lenticular platonic solids and project color onto them from LED matrices. I also built a tool to generate vector halftone images and cut portraits out of dichroic film. Lastly, I generated spirals with Perlin noise, overlaid them to see the moire effect and plotted them using the Cameo pen attachment.

Bobst

How can the library experience be better?

Jaekook Han

https://expandingexperience.kr/Bobst

Description

“School libraries exist throughout the world as learning environments that provide space (physical and digital), access to resources, and access to activities and services to encourage and support student, teacher, and community learning.”

– IFLA School Library Guidelines, 2015

The Elmer Holmes Bobst Library is the main library at New York University, the core place where research takes place. Students and faculty visit the Bobst Library for their study and to interact with library functions as listed by the IFLA guidelines.

When I visited Bobst Library last semester, I had an unpleasant experience, where I spent a long time wandering around the library trying to find the right room and right bookshelf. There was no clear physical or digital way-finding indicator. This experience made me wonder if there are ways to help students and faculty navigate the library more efficiently. This marks the beginning of the project, Bobst.

Bobst focuses on the core function of the library, which is searching and finding a book.

The app shows you where to go and where to check, you can also keep and manage a record of the books you want. Furthermore, you can check the seat availability in the library to study. The original website asks users to open a new page to find book information, while the app’s intuitive user interface design reduces the steps it takes to find a book.
