Ask the right questions to the sailors of a boat that speaks the answers / verses of a poem as it moves towards its destination

Description

This boat has two sailors, one is from Brazil and the other one from Portugal; their stories cross the Atlantic Ocean east to west and south to north. If you’d like to hear their stories you have to start by saying “hi sailor”. Then follow the clues that will help you ask the questions that will give you answers. You can start by asking who these sailors are or where they are going. We have made this moving boat using speech recognition to respond to the user asking the right questions; for those questions (for others it says “try again”) it speaks answers that make up a poem / story and at the same time moves towards its destination. There are several possible combinations of verses, so once the boat reaches the end of its track / final destination, it prints out the individual version of the poem that the user heard.

Description

Computer Mouse Experiment #1 is an exercise in using the mouse gently. Our gestures on screen have often ignored consequences in the physical world. This work surfaces the direct relationship between the computer mouse and the human body. Presented as an interactive video in which I follow the cursor wherever it moves, this piece fosters a slow approach to digital navigation.

Who's up for a dream adventure?

https://www.zttyzzz.com/post/pcom-final-proposal

Description

Our project is inspired by “DREAM”. It is difficult to be described and captured. However, It is wonderful and attract people to touch. Therefore, we hope to build a bridge to connect the dream and the real world.
Our character is named ZAZA and the “sky forest”, which is a floating forest is the dream world of ZAZA. We hope to evoke the audiences’ memories of dreams by interacting with the dream of ZAZA. Since the changes of physical world could influence the dream, we hope to develop more about this property. We built the ZAZA’s Bedroom, the audience could interact with the components in the room, such as rotating the bed, pushing the chair, changing the lightings. At the same time, it will cause sounds, light, temperature, finally the magic will happen in this forest.

OptiMice

OptiMice is a unique customer experience that professional computer peripheral users would get a tailor-made, ergonomic, customized, programmable computer mouse designed and manufactured, and finally shipped to customers’ hands.

https://jason1996429.github.io/optimice.html

Description

First, customers will have the shape and size of their hand measured with 3D scanning technology, a 3D model of the mouse that fits perfectly in their hand will be generated digitally. On a digital platform, customers can further customize different aspects of the mouse, e.g. wired/wireless, extra buttons, types of buttons/switches, button placement finetune, lighting, etc. The tailor made mouse case would be 3D printed. Programmatically, the PCB design which fits the tailor made casing would also be generated digitally. Then all the electronic parts of the customer’s selection will be installed on the PCB. When the customer gets their own mouse, they can program the behavior and functions of the mouse, e.g. what to perform with certain button is pressed.

Being a computer peripheral enthusiast, I bought some of the most premium mice that companies offer, just to simply make my life easier and more comfortable. But one time, I purchased a 4 dollar ergonomic vertical mouse, and it fits better than the 100 dollar mouse which earns “the best mouse on the market” title. The idea of “form over function” struck me. Despite premium mice are programmable and somehow ergonomic, unlike a customized mechanical keyboard which can be customised with different switches, keycaps, even the PCB design and frame, the customizability of a mouse is relatively limited. When a mouse is one’s everyday essential, especially for professional computer users, they will need a personalised computer mouse that perfectly fits their hands and preferences, just like a tailor made suit.

Gun Funded

See & understand the gun lobby's funding of the US Congress.

https://gunfunded.now.sh

Description

Gun violence is a growing epidemic across America, yet Congress refuses to pass real gun legislation. This is in large part due to the gun lobby’s direct funding: the current members of Congress have accepted $40M from the gun lobby & just $4M from gun control groups, a different of an order of magnitude. Gun Funded is a website that focuses on (neutrally) making this information readily available & easy to understand. I compiled the data myself from the Center for Responsive Politics and built the site with React/Next.js/Theme UI.

Reflection – an immersive experience that let you look at yourself in a different perspective.

https://github.com/Jonysand/Reflection

Description

Many people put on auto-pilot mode everyday. We forget to take a moment to stop and to cherish ordinary things in our lives. All different kinds of interactions have embedded meanings behind them.

The project aims at promoting a mindful thinking practice by letting users interact with everyday objects/furniture in a typical living room setting . Every interaction- from opening the door to sit on a chair could. trigger actions in the miniature model of the room which will be placed against a wall. The miniature model of the room is frame by a see through mirror cabinet to create an effect of infinity in order to show the room being a generic existence.

Interactions are as follows- User sitting on a chair will trigger the chair in miniature model to rock. Picking up the phone will results in flashing red lights on the floor, turning on the light of the actual room will trigger the light of the model to turn on, etc.

We use several technologies including position tracking in kinect, multi bluetooth devices communication and connection, sensor network, position mapping and projection using openframework.

Confession Booth

Na Chen

An interactive installation that sheds light on the heavily censored #metoo movement in China

https://nachen.info/2019/12/10/confession-booth/

Description

This is an installation that sheds light on the heavily censored #metoo movement in China last year. Participants can interact with it either inside or outside a confession booth. The person inside the booth — or the “speaker” — will read a paragraph out loud, which will be a first person account from a real sexual assault victim. As they’re reciting the passage, a p5 sketch will use speech recognition to detect their voice. If the words are not clearly uttered, a high pitch sound will be triggered to interfere with the participants. Outside the booth, other participants — “listeners” in this case — will hear the message delivered by the speaker and see the booth blinking every time the speaker gets the word right. The noise in this case symbolizes the censorship apparatus in China and the light is the symbol of the user's endeavor. In order to turn off the speaker, the participants need to speak louder and clearer. The purpose is to create an uncomfortable yet empowering experience and put participants into the shoes of sexual assault victims.

“Black Projection” is a portal mapping device that allows users to explore the interconnectedness of time, space, and racist hegemonic design systems.

https://cyberwitch666.wordpress.com/2019/12/04/black-projection-update-2/

Description

The portal mapping device is navigated through the use of magnets, a sacred tool that acts as a powerful force as we uncover the truth. These magnets trigger different images and text of different “nodes” which correspond to different themes or moments in history.

Ideal location would be a more intimate space such as one of the study rooms.

A Zine will also be accompanying the project that will be a compilation of research, thoughts, and resources for people to take with them beyond the project.

Playing with a shadow kaleidoscope to create some fun shadow patterns with a little help from mr. servos and some LEDs.

Description

Playing with light and shadow is a very basic play to trigger many creative ideas. With only one ultrasonic sensor to detect your distance between you and a pair of mirrors, I create a shadow kaleidoscope by mapping the distance datas from the sensors to the servos and high power rgbw LEDs ( the video summited is work in progress )to create a shadow patterns which you can play with your physical control.
