ADVISEMENT AND REGISTRATION PROCEDURES FOR NEW ITP STUDENTS
This is a guideline to help you through advisement and registration.
Steps:
- Smile! Go to Room 453 and have your picture taken by Midori!
- Activate your NYU netID (see Getting Your NYU Card) and then log into the People page on the ITP website and edit your personal information.
- Make sure that you are cleared to register. If you’ve previously taken courses at NYU, things such as MMR vaccinations shots, or past fees can cause your access to the registration system to be blocked. You can check online through ALBERT (access through http://home.nyu.edu) at any time to double check that you are ready to register. We urge you to do this prior to Thursday, September 1 to ensure that you have time to address any problems before registration begins. Should you discover a problem please alert us immediately.
- IMPORTANT: On Thursday, September 1 at 3:00 p.m, the ALBERT online registration system will open up and allow all new ITP students to register for courses. At this time, (or anytime thereafter) go online to ALBERT (access through http://home.nyu.edu) to register.
ALBERT REGISTRATION 1. Set your browser to http://home.nyu.edu
2. Log in using your NYU netID and password
3. Click on the ACADEMICS tab in the upper left-hand corner
4. Click on Albert Login located under the section marked Albert in the upper left-hand corner.
5. Click on the link marked STUDENT CENTER. This will take you to a page titled (Your First Name)’s Student Center. Click on Enroll.
6. You should see options marked:
my class schedule|| add || drop || swap || edit || term information. Click on add.
7. You should see a box marked Add to Cart: under which is Enter Class Nbr. In the box enter the Class Nber of your first course selection to add it to your course shopping cart, and hit the button marked enter. You will then be shown the course information for the curse (title, type, meeting times, instructor). If it is a course with a waiting list you will need to click on the box marked Wait List to be waitiisted if the course is full. Click on NEXT.
8. You will get a confirmation that the course has been added to your Shopping Cart. You can either now enter another Class Nbr to add another course to your shopping cart or proceed to the next step by clicking on the box marked Proceed to Step 2 of 3.
9. If you proceed to Step 2, you will see a listing of all the courses in your shopping cart. You can either go back to the previous screen to either add another course or remove a course from your shopping cart (to do this click on PREVIOUS), or you can complete the enrollment process by clicking on FINISH ENROLLING.
10. If you click on FINISH ENROLLING, you will either get a message stating Success: This class has been added to your schedule, or Error, the class you requested is full. If the class is closed and you were not offered a box to check for the wait list when adding it to your cart, then the wait list is either full or not offered for that course.
11. When you are finished enrolling, you can see you schedule by clicking on my class schedule. ALBERT will show you a listing of the courses in which you are enrolled, either as a list or a weekly calendar view. Please check your schedule to ensure you enrolled in the section you desired. If you reconsider your choice or you enrolled in the wrong section, you can drop by clicking on drop.
12. If you click on drop, you will see your currently enrolled courses. To drop a course merely click on the box under the Select column next to the course you wish to drop, and click on DROP SELECTED COURSE. The system should immediately give you a confirmation that the course you selected has been dropped.
• If you wind up on the wait list for a Tier 2 course, the system will automatically register you in the class if you are at the top of the waiting list and someone in the course drops the class. If you are on the waiting list for a course, you can attend the first class meeting. If you are not enrolled in the course by the second class meeting, you MAY NOT continue to attend the class. YOU MAY NOT “SIT IN” ON A CLASS—YOU CANNOT ATTEND A CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT ENROLLED IN THE CLASS, OR ON THE WAITING LIST.
NOTE: NONE OF THE TIER 1 FOUNDATION COURSES HAVE WAITING LISTS. IF YOU DON’T GET INTO YOUR PREFERRED SECTION OF A TIER 1 COURSE, YOU WILL NEED TO CHOOSE AN ALTERNATE SECTION.
GORDIE WILL ADD YOU TO ITPG-GT 2000 APPLICATIONS WITH RED BURNS, WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR ALL FIRST YEAR STUDENTS.
• As ALBERT will automatically register you off a waiting list, you must carefully monitor your registration if you register for more than 18 credits (including waitlisted classes). Please check this daily. If you are enrolled for more than 18 credits on or after September 19, you will be responsible for extra tuition and registration fees. (See attached Drop/Add and refund schedule)
• You can NOT register for a class that meets at the same time as a class in which you are already enrolled.
• You can drop and add classes using ALBERT until September 19. After this date, you need to come see Gordie for written approval to make schedule changes.
• Monday, September 26 is the last day to drop course without the permission of the Dean. If you drop a course after this date, you will receive a “W” (for withdrawal) on for the course. Though withdrawals appear on your transcript, they do not affect your grade point average (for students who have them). For more information on TSOA academic policies, you can download a copy of the Tisch School of the Arts Policies and Procedures Handbook by clicking on the pdf link on the TSOA Student Affairs website: http://students.tisch.nyu.edu/page/acadServices
• The last day to withdraw from a course is Monday, November 7.
• Full tuition and fees are due by Wednesday, September 21.
• NOTE: We recommend that you DO NOT make major changes to your program without consulting your academic advisor. A minimum of 12 points (usually 3 courses) is required to maintain your full-time student status. If you drop classes and fall below this limit, you may jeopardize your standing in the program, your financial aid, and your visa status (for international students.)
• If you have any problems with registration, please contact Gordie at 212-998-1889 or e-mail edward.gordon@nyu.edu.
