Jessica Dong

http://imanas.shanghai.nyu.edu/~xd652/final-project/index.html

Description

In China, the college entrance examination is very important, and this exam has been controversial all the time because on one hand it is so cruel but on the other hand there is no other better way to replace it, yet. My personal experience of the last several months before the exam was stressful, so I wonder other students’ feelings about their life in senior three. Also, during this special time, their experience is unique.

Silence aloud

The concept is to substantialize poetic Chinese painting with audios, and to recall the calmness from the pre-industrial age.

Yunyi Wang

http://imanas.shanghai.nyu.edu/~yw4553/audioproject/

Description

.I built a place where visitors can relax and escape from the reality for a while, and also I want to enrich the already-exist art forms by giving them sounds. .This scene consists of mountains, valleys, houses, and rivers, representing ancient Chinese philosophy of “归隐”[hermitage]. Our ancestors suffered from the din and banality of officialdom, just like nowadays we are enduring urban noises. And we all want to escape to a far-away place, where there is no internet and no construction going on. This webpage enables visitors to immerse into this metaphoric space, being both a “visitor” and a “detective” to explore what might be going on in this painting.

Delirious Steamed Hams

Steamed Hams™ but it's a psychological thriller, with an adjustable madness meter.

Qingyu Peng

http://imanas.shanghai.nyu.edu/~qp274/comic/

Description

This interactive comic allows users to adjust the madness of the story as the story goes. Since the “madness” of each panel is adjustable, it provides readers with a total of 16 different storylines with 4 major themes. It plays with the grammar of comics by altering the captions, speech bubbles and image details.

Delirious Steamed Hams is a parody inspired by parodies. It's a product of mixing together stuff that I love. It is weird and sketchy, but I had fun making and memeing. Hope you find it funny too.

To enter the next panel, click the red arrow. Upon viewing each panel, the user has a chance to drag the slider and then the panel will be refreshed corresponding to the “madness meter”.

Fragrant Discourse

An interactive installation that visualizes public perception of topics within Twitter.

Kennedy Cambra-Cho

https://youtu.be/cBOja-sFcrs

Description

Fragrant Discourse is an interactive installation that proposes an alternate method of experiencing data analyses; it presents a possible future where an amplification of senses and perception related to big data analyses and the way that communication networks enable a planetary consciousness. Through tools such as node-red and the Arduino Yun, Fragrant Discourse presents a method in which users can build new interpretive languages of public forum sentiment through visual and olfactory senses.

User speech input is used to search Twitter for tweets regarding the term or phrase topic. Inside node-red, I am able to analyze the Twitter information and display the sentiment and emotion analysis via LEDs and scent diffusers.

A Documentary of M50 Creative Space

Slow down your pace, simply immerse in Arts.

Jia Yun Sha

https://imanas.shanghai.nyu.edu/~jys396/Project4/M50_documentary/index.html

Description

This is a documentary about Shanghai M50 Creative Space.

Nowadays, in this highly developed and fast-paced modern metropolis, fewer people would simply take a scroll and enjoy the art with a serene mood. When it comes of the landmark of Shanghai, what comes to mind are usually either the Bund or these high-rises which represent prosperity. Fewer people would give a thought of those art spaces, yet I think art space plays a significant role in the city. People are just too used to be overwhelming with everyday chores, struggling to make profits. Every practice has to be purposeful and efficient enough; whereas art space is a place where people could slow down their pace, just wander around and truly experience life, exploring something with heart. The reason why I choose M50 is that it is one of the most iconic art spaces in Shanghai. And it is home to a wide variety of galleries and exhibitions. I interviewed different kinds of people in M50—artists, visitors and the gate guard. I learned about their impression on M50 and what M50 means to them. I hope people who come to view this documentary could simply take a short while to enjoy arts.

Old image of Shanghai

Yuxin Qi

http://imanas.shanghai.nyu.edu/~qy648/documentary/index.html

Description

My concept is about the story of old Shanghai. The inspiration of this project is from the documentary Manufactured Landscape where it portraits the image of modern Shanghai. So I want to show a very different image of Shanghai, which may have gradually been forgotten by people, an old, densely-populated, but full of warmth and tranquility. When we think about developments, we always it is a beneficial word, it represents advance, better quality and so on. But is it true that it is one hundred percent good? Will it also lose something valuable? For me personally, the answer is yes. The development of high buildings blocks the close relationships between neighbors; the fast-paced city life pushes us to always go on and never stop to enjoy the serenity. It is due to these reasons that I want to shoot the life in old Shanghai and also give myself a chance to be more familiar with it.

CoronaHack

A speculative wearable design that integrates temperature-detection and real-time geolocation tracking systems.

Zeping Fei

https://youtu.be/RLNpwWdvN1M

Description

CoronaHack is an augmented vision system that integrates a speculative cyberpunk wearable design and a real-time geolocation data system. It allows users to perceive a thermal imaging environment and extract temperature information from human subjects. When one’s temperature is detected as abnormal, CoronaHack will trigger warnings and log the person’s temperature and geolocation data to a cloud service. Data is visualized in real-time on a virtual map that is accessible from any device. The system has a decentralized and open architecture, so that it contributes to citizen science and data spaces designed for the greater good.
