Zhinuo Wang

https://vimeo.com/user115539015/review/418787317/728527503c

Description

Being one of the mainstream cultures, the superhero has gained its global popularity. Along with its great popularity comes its huge influence, the superhero has become the model in both kids' and adults’ hearts. However, being a creation in the 19th century, there is a lack of diverse gender representation of the superheroes. By looking into more than 700 data points, this project aims at providing an insight into the superhero from a gendered perspective. The visualization mainly focuses on 4 parts: names, appearances, figures, and superpowers. It also includes a general overview of these data.

Untitled Rhythm Game

A simple and fun rhythm game.

Chaoyi Wang

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SBZWOA47HPwKYqX3fHdOOrngrWMYS9vu/view?usp=sharing

Description

This is a rhythm game created in Processing and can be played with four keys on a computer. It's my first attempt to create a computer game so it only has one half piece of music and the codes are messy. However, I still managed to realize as many rhythm game features as possible. For example, there are hit sounds and hit indications, combo number, score, grades, and the game reads the chart from a txt file. I will possibly continue this project in the future and eventually make it a mobile game for everyone to play.

*The “Learn more” below will take you to the files of this project so you can download them and play if you have Processing installed*

Description

This is a robot hand which can go through extreme geographical situations and rescue people or does other tough tasks which human are not able to get access in person.

To make the hand mimic the human biological movement, there will be a receiving arm ties to the user’s arm and send the joint move and the grip pressure to the computer. There will also be an acting arm made of special materials that can get through all kinds of tough situations and do the task on the scene. The acting arm will also and has a camera attached sending the real-time video to the computer. The computer will show the current scene of the acting arm to the user, the user can adjust their following movement according to the real-time reflection.

However, in this project, I am not going to build an acting arm, but I will show the corresponding scene by sketching it out by Processing.

Star & Your Own Place

Star is a soft toy that brings people warmth and support, and tell kids what to do when they face sexual abuse.

Yayuan Zheng

https://wp.nyu.edu/joycezheng/2020/04/27/week-11-toy-design-prototyping-assignment/

Description

Star is a soft, bright yellow, a human-like star with a red heart. Star’s red soft heart can be opened, with a 3D-printed hard heart into it. Star also has a small, delicate small room, with a pillow, quilts, a book, a phone, a wood knife in it. So far she has two sets of clothes, one is a loose comfortable T-shirt and another is a sexy camisole & skirt. Players can choose to make beddings/clothes/scarves for Star by themselves. The big idea of my project is to create something for people, especially females that can make them feel warm, support, and independence. After communicating with Marcela, I also added some accessories about how to save yourself from sexual abuse to tell people how to protect themselves, so the toy is a combination of two parts. The ‘Empathy’ in the project first refers to the share feelings of warmth, support, independence, second refers to the knowledge share of reactions against sexual abuse. This concept comes from Li Xingxing, a 14-year-old girl who suffers from sexual abuse. The overall sense of purpose is to help people to live a better life, gaining mental strength and relief from the stuffed toy. After adding the accessories, there is also an educational purpose. Generally, the players can sleep with Star if they want, and they can place Star in its room when needed, they can also DIY clothes/accessories for Star if they want.

Description

The toy is a ragdoll cat called Bubble, who has strong muscles and loves drinking bubble teas. I designed this for my friend Jasmine, who loves ragdoll cat and bubble teas so much. Bubble is strong because Jasmine is in our school’s volleyball team and always hits me as the strength that she thinks is small. I designed 4 back-up bubble teas in different favors based on the bubble teas we have had together, and Jasmine can switch the bubble tea in Bubble’s hat every day.

Interactive Senior Year

COVID-19 destroyed all chances of my sister having a normal senior year filled with traditions.

Sarah Armstrong

https://youtu.be/N85NxgzF-4o

Description

The subject I chose to portray is my sister’s second semester of senior year with a twist. As of now, she is stuck inside unable to participate in the traditions that come with senior year of high school coming to an end. American high schools have senior (last year) traditions that begin the second semester of senior year because only the first half of the year grades will be sent to colleges when they are looking to accept you. Therefore, as long as you do not fail out of high school, these second-semester grades do not count against you. The traditions my sister will be missing out on include, but are not limited to her senior prank, senior skip day, college shirt day, senior banquet, prom, and looking to be graduation. I also think this is a unique subject because this will be a way to honor my sister who is really disappointed she will not be able to do these things.

Empathetic Toys

These toys are designed to help children process their emotions.

Sarah Armstrong

https://youtu.be/__EY6gyqYk4

Description

I created a series of soft toys that represent the six basic emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, anger, and surprise. I made each one a different color, face, and pose to represent this emotion. Doing this, I made sure that the emotions are very distinct from each other. For packaging, I included a simple explanation of each emotion, so children will get a better understanding of how to express what they’re feeling. My ideal user for this project is children between the ages of 3-7 because these ages are key in social development. With these toys, I want to make sure children are able to express themselves and understand how others are feeling because of their understanding of the emotion.
