Re: bay area summer internship opportunity

Dear Phoebe,

here’s the thing. when the godin thread came about, I asked one of the
second years to introduce me to you, assuming you were one of the
second years I had never met. Remember, it’s over 200 people roaming
on the floor. Imagine my surprise when one of them said “phoebe? I
thought she was a 1st year.” after a couple of short google searches i
found 2 things: that you graduated many years ago and that you post
very often to the student list without ever explaining who you are.

I dont’ think t’s unheard of for alumni to post to the student list.
In fact a few do here and there and it’s assumed that a greater many
kinda read the list to see what the vibe is on the floor, or to find
some good memes. But when they do post, they usually make it clear
that they are alumni and what the reason is they’re posting. finally,
Every time I remember seeing a post from an alumni it’s been by
someone who graduated the previous year.

I thought being a student of Godin you would realize that might have
lost some credibility with us during that marathon thread. That any
goodwill the “phoebe brand” on the list has been squandered by
obfuscation and a lack of sensitivity to the current dominant ITP
culture.

I do appreciate the job offers you post. I really do. but don’t you
think it’s more appropriate to send them to Midori like every other
alumni does? What makes you think you’re exempt from that process?
Especially when it was pointed out last time that we can kick you off
the list at any time through a bug in the system?

(which no one did, because we’re Just That Classy ™).

best,

John

those of the author and not necessarily those of ITP, the student
list, and my mom.
