hey all – some of my buddies from college run The Gutter bowling alley out in W’burg (ever been? it’s awesome)
anyway, they’re looking for a freelance PHP (etc) programmer to put together a calendar / scheduling system for them (details below). the goal is for users to be able to book and pay for bowling times in advance. (prob using PayPal as payment rather than custom cc: solution)
if you’re interested, drop my friend Jon an email (reachmiller@gmail.com) and he can hook you up w/ details on budget / timeframe / etc.

> So here’s what I’m trying to do:
>
> A simple one or two page form where people can go online and reserve lanes, dates and times for their parties while paying a security deposit electronically. The form should break down something like this:
>
> Tell us about yourself:
>
> Name
> Phone Number
> Email Address
>
> Choose the date:
>
> Text: Note: Only one reservation will be booked per day. Reservations can be made no sooner that 48 hours in advance.
> Calendar should pop up showing available dates. Unavailable dates should be shaded out. Unavailable dates would be days that already have reservations, Fridays and Saturdays, Holidays and any other days we would be closed. They would also be any days that are less than 48 hours past the current time.
>
> Available date is clicked on and it moves to the next page.
>
> Choose the number of lanes:
>
> Choose the number of hours:
>
> Choose the start time:
>
> Selections would go in half-hour increments from: 4pm-3am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 12noon-3am on Sunday
>
> **If someone has chosen 3 or 4 lanes above, the hour selection should automatically default to a maximum start time of 7pm.
>
> How many people are in your party?:
>
> Selections would include any number from 1 to 225
>
> At this point there should be a calculation detailing the price of the party so far, assuming each lane is $50 per hour, and the approximate number of games that can be played in total and per person (the per person would of course be the number of total games divided by the number of people, rounded up). The detail should look something like this:
>
> March 5, 2008
> 7-11pm (4 hours)
> 4 lanes reserved
> 30 people in party
> Approximately 80-96 games playable (approx. X games per person)
> ——————————————
> $800
>
> At this point they should be asked if they would like to revise any of their choices. Ideally, all these questions would be on the same page and the calculation and detail should be changing on the fly as the selections are made.
>
> Choose a bar scenario:
>
> Selections would include:
> Regular Bar (everyone pays as they go)
> Run a credit card tab when you arrive
> Open Bar Wristbands
>
> If Regular Cash Bar or Run a credit card is chosen it should jump to a screen that asks if they are ready to make the reservation.
>
> If Open Bar Wristbands is chosen, the Open Bar page should open.
>
> Open Bar Wristbands:
>
> Selections for Open Bar Writstbands would include:
> $10 person/hour Draft, Well and Wine NO SHOTS
> $15 person/hour Draft, Shelf and Wine NO SHOTS
> $20 person/hour Draft, Top and Wine NO SHOTS
>
> Choose the number of wristbands:
>
> Selections would include numbers from 20 on up.
>
> Choose the number of hours:
>
> Selections would include numbers from 2 to 11 for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 2 to 13 for Sundays.
>
> Choose the start time:
>
> Selections would be limited by the time they have chosen to have their party above.
>
> At this point there should be another calculation and detail showing what the open bar will cost. The detail should look something like this:
>
> $10 person/hour Draft, Well and Wine NO SHOTS
> 7-9pm
> 30 wristbands
> ———————-
> $600
>
> Will you be having food?:
>
> Text: Note: You are more than welcome to have food at your party. We currently carry a selection of dry snacks for sale including chips, pretzels, candy bars and beef jerky. Take out menus are available for delivery to the bar. Options include pizza, sandwiches, burgers, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Polish, Greek, etc.
>
> **There could be a list of local restaurants that deliver posted here with applicable phone numbers/websites/delivery times/menus. Perhaps if a restaurant is clicked on, that restaurants information could be included in their final detail for their reference.
>
> Selections would include:
> No Food
> Will have food delivered
> Party will be catered by an outside company
> Will bring our own food
>
> Do you need tables reserved in the bar?:
>
> How many tables do you need?
> Selections would include numbers from 1 to 5 depending on how many people are in their party. Assume 1 table for every 10 people.

> Here there should be a space where they can type in any other information that they want…

> To make the reservation they should be directed to a Paypal account where they can send their deposit. Once the payment goes through, an email should be sent to them confirming their payment and reservation as well as the remaining balance due on arrival. And a copy should also be sent to The Gutter’s email. The date of the reservation should then automatically be shaded out on the online calendar so that there can be no double reservations.
>
> A confirmation screen should pop up which lists he details and payment information and a line stating that they will be given a call on the day before their reservation to confirm.
>

> All in all this should be made as simple and direct as possible for the person making the reservation. We already have a website in place for the bar so this would ideally be built into it with the same visual design that we currently have. You can check it out at thegutterbrooklyn.com. There is already a page there that details our pricing but I think designing the form above would save us a great deal of the back and forth over the phone and internet that we’re dealing with now in making these reservations.
>
> Let me know if you come across anyone you think might be right for putting this thing together as well as what you think it might cost. I really appreciate it. Thanks man.
