The Lond=
on Knowledge Lab has been successful in obtaining Becta funding for a proof-=
of-concept research study on the use of technology-enhanced learning for spe=
cial needs.=A0 We are offering this=
part-time appointment at Research Grade 7 level, to candidates with good ra=
pid prototyping skills, and experience of working on high-quality research p=
rojects. The aim of this project is to develop exemplars of teacher-customis=
able personalized software for learners with dyscalculia and other forms of =
low numeracy. We will be working in a collaborative context with SEN teacher=
s in a London school. The post is funded part-time for one year, but the sch=
edule of hours each week is negotiable, depending on the circumstances of th=
e successful applicant.

RESEARCH OFFICER IN TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED LE=
ARNING FOR SPECIAL NEEDS

The Research Officer=92s main duties will be to support the Principal=
Investigator for the Becta-funded project =91Teacher-customisable personali=
zed software for learners with dyscalculia=92. Duties will focus mainly on t=
he following tasks:

=B7=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 Identify and track a small group of learners at KS2 with dyscalcu=
lia, in collaboration with SEN teachers.
=B7=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 Develop and test two types of digital pilot interventions=
, linked to existing teaching activities, and incorporating adaptive techniq=
ues, to act as proof-of-concept prototypes.
=B7=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 Test two examples of current numeracy software against=
these prototypes.
=B7=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 Lin=
k the materials to a discussion forum for parents of the learners on the sch=
ool intranet site.
The Research Officer will work in close collaboration with an experienced =
SEN teacher, and with the project=92s Principal Investigator, Professor Dian=
a Laurillard.

ing design that uses and exploits new technologies
