ne signal/noise ratio is to watch how many posts are contained in a thread..=
.the longer the thread, the more likely a good discussion? Of course, =
some threads would route around this test like birthday threads, TNO threads=
, or the “It’s 4am Who’s Up?” threads. But I think overall it may work=
in conjunction with some other inputs to help “grade” a poster. Maybe=
another dimension could be the frequency in which a poster contributes to t=
hreads considered “high signal”? Then again, Tymm’s recent meteoric ri=
se as “most prolific poster” would actually counter this assumption because =
so many of his posts are amazingly useful, while many others are as trashy a=
s his mom. OH!!!
never thought this one would go so long! I loves it.

one crude metri=
c for determining signal-to-noise ratio might be how many words there were i=

ads and answered questions, and reward people who asked lots of questions an=
d started flame wars. maybe you could look for ?marks and flag those as ques=
tions to make things a little more nuanced. but then that leaves us (or, at =
least, those who care) jumping through semantic hoops to ask as many questio=
ns as possible without the appropriate punctuation. does that make any sense=
alternatively, if words-in-response wasn’t considered a good goal, =
you could invert it to reward the first group (who killed threads and answer=
ed questions) and penalize the second group (who asked lots of questions and=
started flame wars). it of course depends on what sort of environment the P=
resident of the List wanted to create.
