ISAW is a center for advanced scholarly research and graduate
education, intended to cultivate comparative and connective
investigations of the ancient world from the western Mediterranean to
China, open to the integration of every category of evidence and
relevant method of analysis. It will feature doctoral and
postdoctoral programs, with the aim of training a new generation of
scholars who will enter the global academic community and become
intellectual leaders. Built around a mix of established and younger
scholars, the Institute is designed to make possible concrete
progress in ground-breaking study that would be more difficult within
narrow disciplinary bounds.
