Part Time Freelance Visual Designer (Web)

We=
are looking to hire a part time visual designer on a project-based freelanc=
e retainer basis to complement our small interdisciplinary team of strategis=
ts, designers, and programmers. A more permanent role may be considered as o=
ur relationship develops. Telecommuting is a possibility, but you must be ab=
le to available to attend meetings in our Union Square office two to three t=
imes a week.

Purpose is an international team based in New York th=
at builds cutting-edge social and political movements. Our principals David =
Madden and Jeremy Heimans co-founded GetUp.org =96 an Australian online poli=
tical movement that is now larger than all Australia=92s political parties p=
ut together and www.avaaz.org/en/, =
the world=92s largest online political community with more than 3.3 million =
members (a partnership with MoveOn.org).

Purpose is currently advi=
sing advocacy groups and progressive companies around the world and is also =
incubating new issue-based movements. We=92re a new, unusual and evolving co=
mbination of an agency and a home for political and social entrepreneurship.=
Most recently we=92ve launched http=
://livestrongaction.org, a movement platform designed to raise awareness=
around the fight against cancer.

Responsibilities:

-Des=
ign the visuals for websites and emails based on campaign objectives and cli=
ent branding specifications
-Translate wireframes, sketches, and concep=
t documents into smart design solutions and user-centric interactions
-=
Design prototypes and mock ups to demonstrate proof of concepts
-Visual=
ize data in provocative, easy to understand ways to move users to take actio=
n on issues
-Style Powerpoint/Keynote presentations, print documents, a=
nd other related collateral as needed
-Work closely with the Purpose te=
am of strategists, designers, and programmers to ensure that designs are del=
ivered effectively and remain true to concept

Requirements:
-Bachelors or equivalent in visual/graphic design or web media design, o=
r equivalent work experience (MFA or related degree a plus)
-Ability to=
work iteratively on producing uncluttered, visually striking, action-orient=
ed web designs based on clients=92 brand image and style guidelines
-Hi=
ghly developed skill and sensitivity in typography, composition, color theor=
y, and photography use and manipulation
-Flexible, responsive, and with=
excellent oral and written communications skills for interfacing with clien=
ts and the Purpose Campaigns team
-Three to five years experience desig=
ning launched web sites, experience designing for print and related collater=
al a plus
-Fluency in CSS, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flas=
h
-Familiarity with Drupal CMS and Javascript/jQuery a plus
-Aware=
ness and passion for social and political issues
