Full-time Job Opening: Online Systems Manager, Jewish Funds for Justice

Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: New York, NY

Position Summary:

JFSJ is looking for an energetic and motivated Online Systems Manager with a passion for using online technologies to create social change. The Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to ensure JFSJ’s newly redesigned web presences are innovative and up-to-date, develop and implement strategies for engaging JFSJ’s constituencies online, and write online content.

In coordination with the Communications team, the Manager will also help develop the strategic direction of JFSJ’s online presence, execute the organization’s electronic communications strategy, and increase JFSJ’s presence on social media outlets. Ideally, the Manager will have basic web developer skills that will allow for building dynamic web tools and integrating web-based applications via programmatic APIs.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and working closely with the Development Department, the position is part of a four-person Communications Department located in New York. The position has a lot of room for creativity and project management.

Education and Experience:

Two to five years relevant work experience in online communications, online marketing, new media, graphic design, advocacy, or electoral campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Develop and implement an online communication strategy to maximize list growth and increase website traffic, online giving, and online advocacy.

– Identify and implement online technologies and new media tools to support specific departments and projects.

– Write, edit, and disseminate electronic materials including e-newsletters, appeal emails, and other e-blasts, website content, and more.

– Create compelling content, features, and online tools for JFSJ’s websites as well as 3rd party sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc) that support the online strategy.

– Manage and contribute content to jspot.org, JFSJ’s blog and action center.

– Ensure that websites are regularly updated and innovative.

– Implementation of strategic website improvements, including development and maintenance of customized online tools, such as online application pages.

– Develop and implement strategic process for marketing and promoting sites, analyzing site traffic, and evaluating site effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

– Thorough knowledge of current and emerging web-based marketing strategies and social marketing technologies with ability to research, recommend, and apply new technologies.

– Experience with content management systems, online communications, social networking applications, and current programming technologies.

– Knowledge of nonprofit applications for fundraising and advocacy and experience developing for social media (Facebook applications) and mobile (text, iPhone) platforms.

– Knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator,Dreamweaver), and video and audio editing software.

– Experience implementing graphics, video, and audio on the web.

– Familiarly with email marketing tools and knowledge of cross-vendor compatibility (e.g. Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo).

– Demonstrated superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

– Outstanding organization skills, including managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

– Good communication skills; ability to interact collaboratively with staff in an organization with diverse concerns and needs.

– Commitment and passion for the work of JFSJ.

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

– Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively.

– Passion for creativity and innovation.

– Familiarity of progressive/activist community a plus

The following skills are not required, but preferred:

– Familiarity with Drupal and Convio, the online communications database

– Ability to create and edit images using Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator

– Knowledge of XHTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, MySQL

– Experience implementing APIs

– Familiarity with SEO standards and strategies

– Familiarly with web metrics tools (e.g. Google Analytics)
