Executive Director of User Experience

The Executive Director or Director – depending on experience – of User Experience will establish and lead a UI/UX group within the company to ensure that we build world-class products, with elegant and intuitive interfaces and a simple and satisfying overall user experience. We are looking for an expert in the field to implement process-driven design and work closely – sometimes directly and sometimes through his/her team – with customers, product management, and technical teams to develop UI/UX solutions. Our lead UI/UX designer should have strong vision and will make UI/UX decisions – but s/he should make internal stakeholders feel that they are strong partners and collaborators in the process.

Responsibilities

* Create user-centered designs by considering business and functional requirements, along with market analysis, customer feedback, usability findings

* Design the information architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web and software applications

* Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes

* Direct the visual design of web and software applications

* Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications

* Hire and manage PT consultants and collaborators as needed during key points in projects

* Interface with internal clients to understand their business needs and design new prototypes to best serve them

Requirements

* Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree a plus. Prefer formal education and/or training in areas of IA, UI/UX, and human factors, cognitive sciences, and/or visual/graphic design

* Fluency in best practices for web and online user experience design

* Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides

* Proficiency in a variety of design tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver

* Ability to rapidly create prototypes of UI designs for iterative product development and user testing

* Superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to consult, collaborate, facilitate, and lead

* Self-direction and an ability to manage multiple projects on-time, on-budget, with a high degree of quality

Preferred Experience

* 7+ years experience as a user experience/user interface designer, human factors engineer, or comparable roles

* User satisfaction with online experience

* Brand presence and identity, etc.
