JOB: Interactive Designer, Fortnight Journal

Interactive Designer

New online publication immediately seeks Interactive Designer with technical prowess, an artistic eye and penchant for classical forms. The Interactive Designer will conceptualize and create graphic and user interface solutions for the website, and develop future technologies and applications under the direction of the Creative Director. The Interactive Designer works in liaison with design staff and programmers, collaboratively.
Create and present effective design solutions to Creative Director
Front-load content into the content management system (CMS)
Have a keen eye for mistakes once published
Work with web development firm to implement major changes
Hold web development firm accountable for all website changes and related costs
Design email blasts
Develop strategy for potential “app” designs
Represent the publication in the public (online and in person)
Design degree or diploma preferred
Demonstrated commercial experience in an interactive design role
Demonstrated ability to take up a design brief and brand identity standards
Excellent layout and typography skills
Proficient in and ownership of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, and video optimization software
HTML/CSS, XML, Class-based Flash ActionScript and any other relevant technology skills
Proficiency in JavaScript (including JQuery or other Javascript frameworks)
Knowledge of the differences between HTML for email, vs. HTML for web
Knowledge of mobile technologies (WAP, Blackberry Apps, iPhone Apps) a plus
Previous experience with template-based content management systems preferred
Desire to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access).
Passion for emerging technologies, industry best practices and Web usability standards
Strong email skills and ability to communicate regularly and work autonomously

Full-time contract, with strong possibility for hire based on performance.
