Center City Philadelphia-based design studio Night Kitchen Interactive is looking for a talented intern with interest and experience in mobile development to optimize and enhance place-based storytelling projects for mobile devices. Building on the PhilaPlace (http://www.philaplace.org) platform, this intern will engage in adapting the site for mobile visitors, enhancing the project through geolocation, app development, and potentially augmented reality. This is a great opportunity to gain experience working with an award-winning design and development team to build real world mobile-enabled websites and mobile applications. Other current development efforts include mobile games, several large Drupal-based websites, interactive timelines, and Flash-based learning activities.
Candidate should possess 1-2 years progression towards a degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent degree as well as knowledge of one or more of the following:
XHTML / CSS implementation
Javascript
PHP / MySQL
iPhone / iOS application development (optional)
Please note that this is a development position requiring no graphic design expertise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to day responsibilities include working with our design and development team to add additional functionality to create a generic version of the PhilaPlace website. Intern assignments could include
implementing a mobile-optimized version of PhilaPlace
developing an iPhone application for PhilaPlace and/or a museum
adding and modiflying current PhilaPlace functionality
implementing a mobile theme for a website
The intern will also be expected to do a range of administrative tasks, including: archiving, mailings, data and word processing.
TIMEFRAME
40 hours a week for 12 weeks between June 2011 and August 2011.
STIPEND
$3,000 paid in 4 installments and/or school credit.
