[Job] – NBCUniversal – Emerging Technology Specialist, Digital Products & Services

The Emerging Technology Specialist is a key member of NBC Universal’s Digital Products & Services Interactive Media Team. The Emerging Technology Specialist is responsible for leveraging subject matter expertise in specific Emerging Technologies, Mobile and Advanced TV, to advise and inform NBCU business groups. The ETS will also lead Brand-specific projects pertaining to these technologies. Position reports to the Director, Emerging Technology Specialists.

The Emerging Technology Specialist will split their time as follows:

Providing Subject Matter Expertise in a specific Emerging Technology area:

– Provide consulting/strategic advisement to a specific emerging technology

– Define specific deliverables appropriate to the platform or technology

– Identify/create relationships with key stakeholders, understanding their priorities

– Define/create recommended process for platform/technology

– Identify gaps in existing process, stakeholder relationships & communications, etc. & fill in appropriately

– Provide Experience/Best practices guidance

– Serve as DP&S Resource: update DPS Resource pages, deliver news updates, present on Specialty area via workshops, etc.

– Meet with vendors & key external players in the technology; maintain vendor scorecard where applicable

– Create/maintain a project database for specialty area

– Serve as key consultant cross-Brand at brainstorm & post-mortem

– Translate technology based on audience and understand how technology affects NBCU, specific Brands, process & user/consumer experience

– Provide industry insight, holding a business view, external view and future view around a specific technology

Partner with specific Brands to launch groundbreaking, engaging interactive programs and events:

– Strategic/Consultative work with Brand top of mind

– Lead Emerging Technology brainstorms

– Share platform expertise

– Translate technology, technical language

– Provide overall guidance in world of Emerging Technology, specifically in creating optimized experiences pursuant to Brand goals

– Provide Research/Competitive Analysis

– Author RFPs or other critical artifacts such as legal documents

– Oversee Production

– Provide Campaign Analysis


The Emerging Technology Specialist must possess strong communication and leadership skills and be able to work effectively with creative individuals, business and legal representatives and technologists.  They must be self-motivated, flexible and forward-thinking. They should have experience with/understanding of mobile technologies including Mobile Messaging, Mobile Web, Mobile Applications, Mobile Video, QR Codes; Emerging Technologies including Augmented Reality, Social Media, Audio Content Recognition; Over the Top Connected Device Experiences, Tablets; 2-Screen Companion viewing experiences; and Advanced Television/iTV technologies. They should be a versatile player, able to move from brainstorming with executives to translating brand needs to technologists to explaining technology to non-technical audiences.


The Emerging Technology Specialist must have at least one year experience within the mobile, Emerging Technology or Advanced Television industries and possess a passion for interactivity and for television programming in general.

Candidates must possess the following skills:

  • 2 years experience in mobile, Emerging Technology or Advanced Television industries
  • Minimum 1 years work experience within the media/television industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Favorable consideration will go to candidates who also possess:

  • Proven track record with producing and launching mobile, Emerging Technology or Advanced Television events & applications
  • Experience with technology product development
  • Experience with multiplatform interactive projects
  • Knowledge of & keen interest in building expertise in new emerging technologies: Social Media, Augmented Reality, Interactive Storytelling, etc.
  • Familiarity/fondness for NBCU brands/content
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strategic guidance/consulting experience
  • Work experience with broadcast television networks or cable networks and keen understanding of the television business


Eligibility Requirements:

-Willingness to travel, work nights and on weekends with short notice.

  • Must be willing to work in New York City.
