Here’s the job description for a senior Ruby dev — we’re looking for someone with a comparable skill set but also the experience and passion to lead the Meu Rio team!
Do you enjoy developing web applications, but have a sneaking suspicion that you are destroying the planet? Do you love analytics, but would rather optimise third-world micro-loans than Wall Street mega-loans?
Purpose is seeking an experienced Senior Developer to join our team in SoHo, New York City!
Purpose builds 21st Century Movements. We work with NGOs, non-profits and major brands to create platforms and strategies for large-scale collective action. We also incubate our own initiatives, focused on such diverse causes as electric vehicles and global LGBT rights. Just 18-months old, we have already deployed dozens of projects across three continents, and we’re growing.
The Purpose technology team develops web applications, social media strategies and – soon – mobile applications. We work daily with the strategy, user experience, and visual design teams.
The applications we produce range widely in complexity, from one-page petition sites to complex civic engagement platforms, all driven by a powerful shared core engine.
Our team is small but we try to do things the right way. Most days you’ll have the opportunity to pair program. We make an effort to constantly learn from and teach one another. Lastly, each of us brings unique strengths, but we all have equal voice.
Core responsibilities:
- Development of web applications using the Ruby on Rails framework and in-house core libraries
- Implementation of front end user experience and design in co-ordination with the design team
- Consulting with other teams on technical matters
Requirements:
- 5 years experience building full stack Ruby-based web applications
- Strong HTML/CSS/Javascript skills
- Agile and BDD methodologies (we use tools like Pivotal Tracker, Git, Cucumber, and RSpec)
Preferred:
- jQuery/jQuery UI
- Web APIs (consuming and developing)
- Social Software integration experience (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc)
Bonus Points For:
- Sharing your GitHub account or other public code repository
- Open source community involvement
- Innovative use of social media
- Demonstrated interest in issues beyond the debate over vim and emacs
If you’re interested in finding out more, please send your CV along with a brief cover note to jobs@purpose.com and put Senior Developer in the subject line.
Pay will be competitive and based on experience. We have a strong preference for candidates based in New York City.
