Web and Social Media Services Director

The David Allen Company is looking for a talented Web and Social Media Services Director. This position requires being in our offices in Ojai, California several days per week. Applicants must reside locally or be willing to relocate.

Applicants must be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and technically skilled. You will have influence, as part of a collaborative team, over the web and social media presence and direction of an established global brand. Must take ownership of customer service, customer experience, and quality control for all web-related systems and sites. Responsibilities include monitoring the members-only website and its forums, writing copy for the site, uploading audio and video to the website; supporting products, marketing and the online membership business staff in meeting their objectives from a technical standpoint; and diagnosing technical problems and referring complex issues to the development team with reproducible steps and clear outcomes for resolution. Must be extremely detail oriented and a team player to support the web infrastructure, marketing efforts, and our vibrant online community. GTD enthusiasts preferred.

This position reports directly to the COO and manages the development team. This person is accountable to whatever department requests assistance – typically products, marketing or the membership business – to help them meet their objectives in relation to our web systems. Attention to detail and a strong sense of “taking ownership” of the website and all of its customer-facing attributes is key. Ability to work well in a team, take direction and bring new ideas to improve our online offerings is also critical.

Required skills:

  • Experience as a project manager for web application developers
  • Experience being responsible for other websites in a similar position
  • Strong knowledge of web standards such as HTML, CSS and XML/RSS
  • Strong knowledge of social networking sites, technologies, tools, and trends
  • Excellent requirements gathering and project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with web analytics and the ability to frame data in a business context
  • Comfortable on a UNIX command line

Desired skills:

  • Experience with LAMP technologies, including UNIX/Linux environments and PHP/MySQL
  • Experience with web application security
  • Experience with campaign-based online marketing
  • Experience with website performance monitoring and tuning
  • Experiencing using SCM technologies such as CVS/Subversion/Trac/Git/etc.
