Position summary

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for an outstanding assistant professor specializing in visual communication and multimedia.  The successful applicant will teach courses in beginning and intermediate-level multimedia, and other courses in a specialty area of multimedia such as 3D design, motion graphics or video collection/editing. All of the school’s visual communication courses are taught in our state-of-the-art Macintosh labs.  The successful candidate will teach a 3/2 course load and perform other customary duties of a faculty member in the school’s professional tenure track: creative activity, service and teaching/advising students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

 

Education requirements

A master’s degree in journalism/mass communication or a relevant related field is required.

 

Experience and qualifications

• Preferred 10 years of full-time professional experience as a multimedia specialist.

• Entrepreneurial and/or freelance work experience.

• An outstanding, award-winning, professional portfolio.

• Proficiency in appropriate software such as Flash, Dreamweaver, Joomla! Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Final Cut Pro. Proficiency in appropriate programming languages such as ActionScript . Working knowledge of After Effects and/or a 3D software program (such as Maya or Lightwave.)

• Ability to be an outstanding teacher.
