News App Developer at The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced visual journalist/ news app developer.  Candidates would be assigned to work on’s highest profile projects including long-term investigative pieces, real time news coverage, and the online components of data-centric packages.  Many projects will appear prominently on the homepage and promoted heavily through traditional and social media, and viewed subsequently, by millions of people.

Persons applying should be highly skilled in the field of data visualization and well schooled in the narrative presentation of complex topics.

The news graphics team also develops the tools that update and support several ongoing graphics and this person would be expected to contribute to that effort.

Qualified candidates should be able to demonstrate deep knowledge of front-end javascript packages like Jquery and Raphael and also be able to integrate web applications with Php, MySQL, Django, Python and other frameworks.  Ability to envision and tweak projects to work on touch enabled devices like the iPad is required.  Familiarity with PostGRES and MongoDB and Amazon EC2 implementation is a big plus.
