[CALL] 3rd Annual $75,000 NYU Technology Venture Competition

3rd Annual $75,000 NYU Technology Venture Competition
In 2010, we started the $75,000 NYU Technology Venture Competition (TVC) to serve as a catalyst for the creation of new startup ventures based on technologies and intellectual property developed by NYU students, faculty and researchers across the life science, information technology and physical science sectors. In the first TVC, NYU-Poly Professor Kalle Levon and his team of graduate students and researchers took the $75k prize for their biosensor startup Anzenna. In the 2nd year, two teams led by PhD candidates from the School of Medicine and GSAS split the prize for their new ventures RF Test Labs and SeeMore Technologies, respectively.
Even if you feel you don’t have the time, skills or team necessary, if you are remotely interested in exploring how to bring your innovation(s) to market and a get a chance at winning the $75,000 cash prize, please attend the competition Kickoff Eventnext Wednesday, September 19 at 5:00pm in Paulson Auditorium in Tisch Hall (40 West 4th St @ Greene St). At the Kickoff you’ll learn how the competition works, hear from prior winners, and discover all the resources we have in place to help you succeed, including helping you find co-founders with complementary skills and talents to build your team.  You may RSVP for the kickoff here.
The deadline to enter the Competition is not until October 17, and even then you don’t have to have your full team, let alone a business plan in place to enter. All we’ll require then is the equivalent of a 1-pager about your technology, a short, crude video and outlining your very rough thoughts about how you might commercialize it. Over the course of the following months, you’ll participate in a variety of workshops and bootcamps to learn the key skills you will need to identify the customer/market prospects, assess the competitive environment, explore potential business models, etc. In addition, if you make it to the semi-finals (announced in January), you’ll then be assigned a hand-picked team of experienced entrepreneur and investor coaches to give you the hands-on feedback and sector-specific advice you’ll need. The final judging in April and May.
At least one current NYU student, faculty or researcher must be an integral member of the venture’s team.  In other words, other team members may come from outside the University if you desire. In fact, it’s encouraged
We hope you can attend the Kickoff.  In the interim, you can learn more about the Competition here.  If you have any questions about the competition, please contact Loretta Poole <lpoole@stern.nyu.edu>.
