Okayafrica + Okayplayer, the Roots lifestyle brands and online music communities are seeking fall editorial and video interns! Check the descriptions below for your opportunity to be a part of the Okayplayer/Okayafrica team. *Applicants must be NYC-based.
Editorial Internship:
Journalism students and music heads preferred. Must have some experience writing, preferably for an online audience and be available for a normal 8-hour work day for 2-5 days/week. Duties include writing and formatting short items for the Okayafrica news blog, attending shows and events, writing captions and copy for OKA’s social media outlets and some basic editorials tasks/site maintenance. All posts will be credited with a professional by-line. We will provide training on our WordPress content management system and interns will have the opportunity to pitch longer features and reviews for more writing experience. Must be willing to commute to the OKA offices in Brooklyn, NY (remote interns will be considered only with prior WordPress experience). Video Internship:
We are currently seeking video shooters in and around NYC with their own HD cameras to shoot for Okayafrica TV. Shoots consist of live concerts and special events, as well as interviews with various artists. See our Youtube page here for examples. We are not currently able to pay our production team, but because of our close association with The Roots and Okayplayer we are a great website to gain experience, make contacts, and broaden your portfolio (many high-profile shoots). We can also provide contributors with free tickets to special events and concerts.
Qualifications:
Must be able to work professionally with high-profile musical acts, must have some shooting experience, Editing capabilities and experience are a bonus. Please email links to examples of your shooting work to Interns@Okayafrica.com.
