[CALL] for international artists to perform/document a sunrise/sunset ritual on November 24th, 2012 in their residing countries

Dawn Here Dusk There – Call for Artist to document sunset/sunrise on November 24th.

Project Website : www.dawnhereduskthere.com

Dawn Here Dusk There is a video installation continuously showing sunrise and sunset of one day from different parts of the world. Artists/filmmakers/dancers/ performers across the world are invited to submit video footage of sun rituals performed during the rising or setting of the sun documented on November 24th, 2012 from their city. The sun rituals could be observed or created by participating artists. Inspired by sun worships observed in various cultures such as Native American Sun Dance, Sun Salutation in Hatha Yoga and Sun gods in Egypt, the project seeks to create the ‘perpetual sunrise/sunset effect’ by continuously playing collected video clips one after another as the current time of their original locations meet the sunrise/sunset.
How to Participate

1) The video documentation must meet following criteria for installation purpose.
  • Time : You will shoot the video on Saturday, November 24th 2012 at sunrise and or sunset time, rain or shine. It is advised that you arrive at your desired location an hour before expected sunrise/sunset time to set up your camera.
  • Location : The sun ritual must be taken place in outdoor space with a good visibility of the sun in the background. Thus, most likely, different locations should be considered for the event of sunrise and sunset.
  • Camera Setup: Tripod is required. No camera movement. Make sure your camera is standing parallel with the horizon. Horizon should be in the middle of the frame or closest as possible. The footage should be shot with manual exposure, and optimized for “the sun” shot.
  • Video length/format : Each footage should be minimum 15 minutes / maximum 20 minutes that will evenly include before and after sunrise/sunset. It should be shot in real-time(no time-lapse). The resolution must be at least 720p HD.
  • Submission : Participants are expected to submit raw footage of the documentation via Vimeo or Dropbox and must grant the use of the footage for the project Dawn Hear and Dusk There. By submitting the video footage, the artist must agree to grant use of the footage for the project Dawn Hear and Dusk There.
2) Interested participants will fill out the form by November 10th. 2012
