Director of Interactive Media and Technology Design  ESI Design – one of the world’s leading experience design firms is seeking a Director of Interactive Media and Technology Design to work as part of a cross-disciplinary team developing environments for cultural, institutional, corporate and retail clients all with a focus on visitor interaction and experience design.

The position will involve managing the interactive media and technology design department and leading the digital design from concept through completion on multiple projects. This position requires the management of both design and production projects, with many opportunities for traditional media, software and technology development projects in house. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of industry developments in leading edge digital media and interactive technology, and possesses the ability to translate that knowledge into innovative, yet pragmatic, designs.

Responsible for:

• Overseeing schedule and workflow for the interactive media and technology design department, its staff, and third party design/production resources.

• Monitoring the design work within the interactive media and technology design department to assure consistency and quality

• Digital design creative direction on multiple projects simultaneously

• Expanding the vision for digital strategy, interactive technology development and the relationship of digital to the built environment • Leading the experience design for specific ESI client-based projects

• Working with the internal multi-disciplinary design team including physical designers, graphic designers, technical systems designers, writers and researchers

• Building and maintaining collaborative teams in and across departments

• Mentoring designers in career development • Presenting ideas and designs verbally and visually; both internally and directly to clients • This job requires domestic and international travel.

Qualifications:

• At least 10+ years experience working in the field of digital media design and production

• At least 5+ years experience working in a managerial role. Extensive knowledge of interviewing, hiring, and managing the performance of a design team

• Creative, conceptual thinker who can lead design projects from brainstorming/concept phase through production

• Demonstrated mastery of interaction and experience design that integrates technology in the built environment

• Proven ability to plan and execute traditional media production projects, advanced web development, and software applications.

• Understanding of physical and pervasive computer technologies and development of alternative interface designs • Demonstrated understanding of H/C interaction, learning theory, and media/communications design

• Experience in large-scale project planning, management and production

• Understanding of integration of technology into a physical environment required

• Ability to recommend and incorporate emerging technology into experience design concepts

• Passion for design, technology, invention and curiosity in the world

• Command of industry standard IA documentation, experience in user interface and experience design documentation
