PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (SUBSTANTIATION-TRACK) IN THE SCHOOL OF CREATIVE MEDIA

The School of Creative Media (SCM) at City University of Hong Kong is recruiting academic faculty within its broad scope of creative endeavors. Led by Dean Professor Jeffrey Shaw, SCM is the leading media school in Hong Kong and the foremost advocate and incubator of new media and creative arts in Asia. We have an international faculty of world renown for their creative endeavours.  We are especially interested in applicants with a record of bridging art, humanities, and sciences (including physics, mathematics, biology, computer science) to participate in the implementation of a new Bachelor of Arts and Science.

Specific needs exist in the following priority areas:

  • Digital Animation
  • Digital Cinema (directing, scriptwriting and production)
  • Photography (and expanded photographic practices)
  • Game design, production, experimental and art games, game studies
  • Design for New Media
  • Exhibition Curating and Design
  • Arts Administration

Other areas of interest are:

  • Media(Art) Theory (at the highest level of academic achievement)
  • Mediated performance
  • (Scientific) Visualization
  • Virtual reality and simulation
  • Internet, mobile and distributed media
  • Bio art
  • Frontiers in creative media

SCM moved into its new home, the Daniel Libeskind-designed Creative Media Centre in July 2011. New hires can expect a stimulating and congenial work environment.

We offer teaching loads commensurate with the requirements of a research university, start-up research grants (for substantiation-track appointees) and competitive remuneration packages. Requirements

Interested candidates should possess a PhD and must be able to demonstrate creative and research ability or significant potential. Those with a nearly completed PhD will be considered for the position of Assistant Professor. Candidates with prior academic experience must also demonstrate effectiveness in teaching.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be very attractive, driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
