Print and Digital Magazine Production Associate
Entry-level, full-time, long-term Freelance
Evening shift plus periodic at-home weekend hours
The New Yorker is seeking a full-time entry-level or moderately experienced content production staff member, with considerable technology skills, for the evening shift of our growing and cutting-edge editorial production department.
The position is long-term freelance, in-house at our Times Square location, and is available immediately.
The role is focused primarily on producing the print edition, with some digital edition production. Work includes building weekly InDesign files from templates, flowing and fitting text, circulating printouts and maintaining book proofs, tracking file status, running scripts to process and convert files, and sending files to the printer or distributor.
The role is part of a position-tracked department where there are opportunities to advance. Interest in long-term commitment, and amenability to ebbs and flows of changing responsibilities over time is a must. This role is currently tracked as part of our technology focus, so interest and aptitude related to any or all of the following will be considered highly: scripting or application code development, technology market research, database management, desktop and production technology management, digital edition/mobile app quality control or product development.
Candidates should possess moderate to intermediate-level InDesign skills; should be able to sustain an extraordinary level of care and attention to detail in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; must have a exceptional capacity to learn; must have excellent aptitude for technology if not notable technology skills; and must have willingness to be part of a close-knit team.
The role is not a track for writing or editing positions, though appreciation or interest in those areas is most welcome.
Evening shift hours are 5 P.M. to roughly midnight depending on work needed, with alternating weekends requiring some at-home remote work (with Mondays off when significant weekend work is needed.)
Interested candidates should write to tnymakeupquery@gmail.com with resume and cover letter.
