China Institute in America: Web Designer

China Institute in America is looking for a reliable and self-motivated individual to work as a Web Designer. This is a freelance project-based position.
Job Duties
The Web Designer will work with the Project Manager and program staff on creating a dynamic interactive website to promote a new publishing and educational initiative at China institute revolving around the Forbidden City. Responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with program staff to create a unique and fun website that will appeal to children, parents, and educators.
- Ensuring that the website is visually and conceptually aligned with all elements of the Forbidden City program.
- Proactively advise staff on the development of suitable web content, style, and flow of web pages.
General Requirements
Individuals who wish to apply for this position should have experience creating professional websites aimed at children and families; a high attention to detail; an excellent design aesthetic; and the ability to work independently in a timely manner. A familiarity with Chinese culture and/or non-profits is a plus. Additional requirements are:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field
- Self-motivated and team oriented
- Experience working with high-profile and time-sensitive projects
- Must be able to troubleshoot and be solution oriented
- Solid portfolio of great web design work
- Solid knowledge of such UX practices as user flows, site mapping, interaction design, etc.
- Ability to write HTML 5/CSS
- Advanced knowledge of 1 or more CMS platforms (Drupal, Joomla, WordPress) required
- Knowledge of Javascript and MySQL/PHP are required
- Must have advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- A working knowledge integrating multimedia desired
- Experience designing interactive web experiences is a plus
