Paid Web Intern – Doctors Without Borders – Spring semester 2014

Objective: To support the Doctors Without Borders (known globally as MSF or ”Medecins Sans Frontieres”) Web & Publications Team while providing a comprehensive learning experience to an individual interested in Web content management, design, and development.

Overview: The Web Intern will work closely with the Web Manager, developers, and communications staff, offering day-to-day support and meeting project-based needs as they arise. The Web Intern will have the opportunity to contribute creatively to a constantly evolving, highly-visited humanitarian website while improving his/her design, development, and/or content management skills. An individual looking to put an Interactive Design or Web/Creative Technology degree to work for a good cause and to learn more about Web/digital strategy and content management for nonprofits will be perfectly suited for this position. The selected candidate must be willing to commit to this internship for the duration of the semester.

Duties: The Web Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks, in order of importance and current need:

  • Perform editorial review on and organize large amounts of content (articles, events, press releases, etc) that have been migrated to our new Drupal site

  • Post content to website regularly and assist with administrative tasks

  • Learn or improve understanding of Drupal, including contributing to content management, site building, and maintenance

  • Monitor and produce web metrics

  • Participate in discussions regarding site development and growth

  • Create and optimize content for the Web and social media

  • Edit multimedia files, including slideshows, audio and video

  • Design web layouts, graphics, banners, etc.

Required Skills:

  • Previous use and understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal and WordPress; comfortable with analyzing Web pages

  • Ability to use Photoshop (or other ACS programs) for Web and graphic design

  • Comfortable understanding and writing HTML

  • Attention to detail; excellent proofreading and grammar skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot one’s own work

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage own time

  • Comfortable working on both PC and Mac platforms

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in Photoshop

  • Coding skills (CSS, PHP, and Javascript)

Duration & Compensation:

The Spring 2014 semester internship starts mid January (preference given to qualified applicants who are available to start in December. Please note this in your application if so) and continues through May.

This is a PAID internship at $10/hour.
