[INTERN] Summer 2014 Design Internship, Danville Regional Foundation

The Danville Regional Foundation understands that you have some of the best design students in the world. Well, we have an opportunity for them.

Please look over the following internship opportunity, “Re-Design Entrances”, and forward to any strong art students, who are hard-working and have a passion for design.

Each Summer, the Danville Regional Foundation (DRF) is excited to host college students from all over the country to work on community projects that assist us in our mission to transform the Dan River Region.

In 2014, DRF will be recruiting talented young people to be a part of a team that works on one of the three following projects:

Create an App – As Danville, Virginia’s River District undergoes revitalization, there is a presence of new shops, restaurants, living spaces, and other amenities.  Interns will be asked to design a mobile app that will help residents and tourist navigate the River District and highlight all that the area has to offer.

Re-design Entrance – As revitalization occurs in the heart of the River District, it is equally important that the gateways to the city also reflect the history, beauty, and modernization that is happening at the core. Interns will design entrances that welcome and excite all who enter the Dan River Region.

Re-imagining Communities – Recently, there has been an effort to recruit and retain young people in the region however how do we do the same with our recent retirees.  Interns will research communities around the world that are attractive to the senior populations and make recommendations on how DRF can learn from these successful communities.

DRF seeks college students and recent graduates from various disciplines and educational backgrounds to spend 10 weeks (May 27, 2014-August 1, 2014) in Danville, Virginia tackling these issues.  Pay ranges from $12.50 – $14.50 per hour and housing is provided on an as needed basis at no cost to the participants.  See the attached Job Description.
