Position: Job Description: Web Designer & Administrator
Status: Part Time
The Museum of the City of New York is the premier institution devoted to the history and culture of New York’s five boroughs; it explores the City’s heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation through exhibitions, public programs, collections, publications, and a relaunched website, including a collections portal containing over 135,000 images.
The Museum seeks a talented and experienced Web Designer & Administrator. The position supports the newly created digital team in design, development, and site maintenance work relating to its digital properties. These include the museum and shop websites, e-mail marketing program, and social media. The ideal candidate is grounded in user experience design, and skilled in creating digital work-products that drive results. This position is part time, requiring 21 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Website Design and Development Support
• Provide creative input and assist with design, build-out and implementation of online campaigns such as interactive landing pages, contests, and surveys
• Design and produce online marketing materials such as homepage lightboxes, web banners, social media graphics
• Design and develop new website features to enhance user-experience
• Design, develop, and deploy html emails
• Collaborate with vendors who support ongoing website maintenance
• Maintain design standards and ensure the Museum’s visual brand is translated to the digital properties
Website Maintenance and Administration
• Routine management and updates to MCNY’s website and shop site, including content and graphics
• Manage updates to external applications integrated with website, such as Wufoo forms and Vista ticketing pages
• Manage aspects of e-mail database, e.g. data uploads, exports and queries.
• Conduct light server administration.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of web design and development experience is required
• Experience in web graphic production and optimization using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) required
• Intermediate to advanced skills with front end web development (HTML, CSS) required
• Working knowledge of Javascript, including jQuery and JSON
• Experience working with content management systems required
• Experience with responsive design concepts and development a plus
• Experience with mobile web development a plus
• Experience with HTML5 and CSS3 standards a plus
• Experience with HTML email development a plus
• Experience with Google Analytics
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
• Ability to work autonomously and manage assignments simultaneously
• Working knowledge of Drupal and/or Mailchimp a plus
• Experience in producing online marketing or advertising materials preferred
• Digital portfolio required for consideration
