The Department of Media Culture at the College of Staten Island (CSI) invites applications for a tenure- track position in Design and Digital Media at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2015. A generalist with the ability to teach Web Interaction, Gaming, Mobile Media and/or Motion Graphics is preferred. We seek an artist or designer with a committed creative practice and exhibition record, who teaches the how as well as the why. Successful candidates will teach core courses such as Typography and Design, Digital Imaging, and/or Web Design; upper division courses including Web Interaction, Gaming, Mobile Media and/or Motion Graphics; and develop new courses in her or his area of specialization.The successful candidate will work with other departmental concentrations and programs to develop interdisciplinary courses; continue an active creative practice and exhibition program; and perform college service. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The College of Staten Island is a leading publicly funded unit of The City University of New York (CUNY) located in the fastest growing borough of New York City. It is situated on 204 acres of wooded grounds with nineteen buildings constructed in the Georgian style. It is a comprehensive liberal arts and technology institution with a commuter student population. Free shuttle service is offered from the Staten Island Ferry to the CSI Campus.

The school’s location in New York City enables it to draw on the vast economic and cultural resources of the city. It also provides opportunities for faculty to interact with practitioners in industry and with researchers at other colleges and universities in the metropolitan area. Opportunities exist to serve on the Doctoral Faculty of The City University of New York Graduate School in various field areas.

The Department of Media Culture values interdisciplinarity, combining theory and practice in its teaching, research and creative pursuits. It offers a BA in Cinema Studies, BS in Communications and MA in Cinema and Media Studies. Our Master’s program offers faculty opportunities for seminar teaching and supervision of research and/or production theses.

QUALIFICATIONS

An MFA or equivalent terminal degree in art, design or closely related field is required at time of appointment. A generalist with the ability to teach Web Interaction, Gaming, Mobile Media and/or Motion Graphics is preferred. Applicants should have a minimum of two years of teaching with an ability to communicate theoretical and historical concepts, aesthetic principles and technical skills to a diverse student body.
