[INTERN] with XBee radio maker Digi International

Measure, Create and Innovate

Students in this internship will work with XBee radio maker Digi International, to explore an upcoming long-range wireless product that features accurate distance measurement. This radio can communicate up to 150 miles in perfect conditions. Interns will get access to the pre-release hardware and its supporting software, learn about the radio’s features, then build prototyping hardware and software for interacting with it. Interns will start by characterizing and investigating the radio’s real-world behavior, then create simple distance measurement examples in one, two and three dimensions, generate creative demonstration projects and perform explorations of their own choosing.

The focus of the internship will be on brainstorming applications for this new technology, and building creative demonstrations for each idea. Students should be comfortable with programming and learning the math to do spatial calculations as needed. They will work via the company’s R&D division with ITP alumni Rob Faludi, Digi’s Chief Innovator. Investigations can be performed independently with regular check-ins to share progress. Projects and code will be published open-source. This is planned as a paid internship for 1 to 3 persons, 5-10 hours per week.
