Web Intern – Doctors Without Borders – Spring 2015

 

Objective: To support the Doctors Without Borders (known globally as MSF or ”Médecins Sans Frontières”) Web Team and the global MSF Web platform with visual design assistance while providing a comprehensive learning experience to an individual interested in Web content strategy, user experience design, project management and humanitarian nonprofit work.

 

Overview: The Web Intern will work closely with the Web Manager, developers, and communications staff, offering day-to-day support and meeting project-based needs as they arise. The Web Intern will have the opportunity to contribute creatively to a constantly evolving, highly-visited global humanitarian website platform consisting of multiple country sites as well as speciality campaign and program-based sites while improving his/her design, development, and/or content management skills. A individual looking to utilize User Experience and Web design skills, whether learned within the context of a degree program, apprenticeship, or an independent study, for a good cause and to learn more about Web/digital strategy and content management for nonprofits will be perfectly suited for this position. The selected candidate must be willing to commit to this internship for the duration of the semester.

Duties: The Web Internship will focus heavily on Web Design. However, the intern will be expected to perform any of the following tasks, in order of importance and current need:

  • Design web layouts, graphics, banners, buttons, and related digital elements

  • Learn or improve understanding of Drupal, including contributing to content management, site building, and maintenance

  • Monitor and produce web metrics

  • Post content to websites and assist with administrative tasks

  • Participate in discussions regarding site development and growth

Required Skills:

  • An understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal and WordPress; comfortable with analyzing Web pages

  • Ability to use Photoshop (or other ACS programs) for Web and graphic design

  • Comfortable understanding and writing HTML

  • Attention to detail; excellent proofreading and grammar skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot one’s own work

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage own time

  • Comfortable working on both PC and Mac platforms

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in Photoshop

  • Coding skills (CSS, PHP, and/or Javascript)

Duration & Compensation:

The Spring 2015 semester internship starts mid January (preference given to qualified applicants who are available to start in December. Please note this in your application if so) and continues through May.

 

This is a PAID internship at $10/hour.
