This call for proposals welcomes designers, filmmakers, architects, artists, and makers to submit a proposal for design-driven research to be conducted in Summer 2015 in residence in the MDP studio.Learn more.
The winning proposal should use design/making as a mode of inquiry into emerging issues in science, technology, culture, and/or society. The 2015 resident/s will be selected by a distinguished jury that includes:
Cher Potter, design futurist and V&A Senior Research Fellow
Marko Tandefelt, Eyebeam Director of Technology and Research
Mimi Zeiger, design critic and Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design Co-President
Sean Donahue, design researcher and MDP Faculty
The selected resident/s will be awarded project space, a $5,000 stipend, a $5,000 project budget, access to Art Center’s state-of-the-art shops and facilities, and a small team of Media Design graduate students for seven weeks. The residency concludes with a small exhibition and public presentation.
Housed in a former supersonic jet testing facility, the MDP studio is part of the Wind Tunnel Graduate Center for Critical Practice, which includes the Wind Tunnel Gallery, the Graduate Art studios and galleries, and the Hixon Courtyard, in the heart of Art Center’s south campus in Pasadena, California.
