[JOB] Web Developer, Wildlife Conservation Society

The Wildlife Conservation Society based in the Bronx, New York, is looking for a full-stack developer to help us on a contract basis with an exciting and intensive 3-6 month effort (with possible extension) toscale https://mannahatta2409.org from Manhattan to all five boroughs of New York.

 

Some of our key challenges include:

– Abstraction/generalization and extension of Djangomodels and views from Manhattan to arbitrary geographic instances

– Abstraction/generalization and extension of javascriptapplication framework with standard and extensible data modeling and visualization libraries

– Alternative ways to store and serve large amounts of raster data

– Addition of new environmental performance metrics to the calculation engine

– PostgreSQL optimization and administrative streamlining

– Server/Amazon infrastructure optimization and troubleshooting

 

We’re looking for somebody who is able to jump into an existing codebase, good with multiple components of a data-driven application stack, a creative problem-solver, a good team worker and communicator, and passionate about readable code, conservation and sustainable cities. The successful applicant will be good with Linux and Amazon infrastructure, PostgreSQL and PostGIS, Apache, Django, Python, and Javascript.
