Haptic Engineer/Prototyper – Software Focus, Interaction Architecture
Apple Design is looking for haptic interaction designers/prototypers for the Interaction
Architecture Group. We are interested in curious, passionate, detail-obsessed and collaborative
hybrid engineers/designers to help us create the best products in the world.
Description
Members of the Interaction Architecture Group design and fabricate prototypes for current
products as well as future concepts. In this role, you will be responsible for designing
exceptional haptic experiences for current products as well as future concepts.
•Design and refine haptic interactions in Apple products.
•Develop software tools and prototypes capable of showcasing haptic experiences.
•Develop, document and maintain a repository of demo apps and software tools.
•Support content development and concept transfer to Apple’s world class hardware and
software engineering groups.
•Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting to program needs as required.
Qualifications
•Demonstrated experience for crafting high-quality and well executed software leading to
exceptional human experiences.
•Empathy towards human experience and understanding of design/engineering/process
constraints.
•Aptitude for OSX and iOS software stack, not limited to high-level GUI.
•5+ years of programming experience including 2+ years of professional work with any one or
more of C/C++/Objective-C.
•Excellent cross-functional communication skills and aptitude for working closely with design,
engineering and marketing teams.
•Ability to balance speed and quality of work based on objectives.
•Independent, self-starter, with good interpersonal skills.
•A passion for doing the best possible work.
Additional Qualifications (not required)
•Passion for rich, expressive and dynamic interfaces, embracing physical or multimodal input/
output.
•Strong understanding of low-latency/fast response time interfaces, and realtime rendering
constraints.
•Some experience with haptic renderers, physics simulation, game engines or OpenGL/GPU
programming.
•Some experience with audio programming, sound processing and/or synthesis.
•Some experience of sysadmin work, management and/or deployment of a fleet of devices
across an organization.
Education
The position requires a bachelor’s degree (master’s/doctorate preferred) in a technical field
(Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, others), or in a design discipline (Interaction Design,
Sound Design, others) coupled with relevant software expertise.
