Responsibilities: Parsons The New School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks a full-time Full-time Technician, Digital Print Output in the School of Art, Media and Technology (AMT). The school includes academic programs in Communication Design, Design & Technology, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Printmaking. AMT has approximately 350 full- and part-time faculty and over 1200 students in both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Reporting into the Facilities Manager, the primary function of the Full-time Technician is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Lab 10 facility, particularly all print related services. S/he should have command of digital print and film output practices with the ability to learn new skills and technologies as needed. S/he is responsible for keeping current with upgrades in digital print equipment and processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide variety of technology, networking and audiovisual equipment in all AMT-associated spaces (including, but not limited to, computers, displays, LCDprojectors, audio systems, printers, digital still and video cameras, and game consoles)
    • Support and maintain all print related services within the lab, including all film output for the Printmaking Program.
    • Imaging and rollout of computers in a lab environment
    • Installation of new or updated software as needed.
    • Responsible for managing equipment checkout for both in-lab use and off-site special requests.
    • Creating and maintaining user printing accounts for AMT students.
    • Updating AMT Lab website.
    • Creating clear, accurate, user-friendly technical documentation and instructions for all equipment.
    • Assist Facilities Manager with researching new equipment and software possibilities for programs and faculty in AMT
    • Assist in technology setup and installation for annual Parsons year-end exhibitions.
    • Assisting Parsons-wide technology initiatives
    • Provide support for special projects and events as they arise.
  • Provide equipment use demonstrations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or minimum 3 years experience in an academic technology environment.
  • Solid experience with Macintosh and Windows hardware, graphic software, and printing in a networked environment.
  • Experience with Risograph Duplicator and digital film print output on Epson large format printers.
  • Strong knowledge of print protocols, output, setup and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of professional A/V, cable wiring, routing, and signal protocols.
  • Ability to coordinate and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • High organized with solid customer service skills as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience with 3D software such as Maya, Cinema 4D, Rhino
  • Experience with DSLRs and lighting set-ups as well as stop-motion animation software such as Dragonframe.
  • Experience using Wacom Cintiq tablets.
  • Experience with digital video editing programs such as FCP 7 and Premiere CS6.
  • Comfortable speaking to large groups, giving equipment and software demos, as well as providing one on one instruction for faculty and students.
  • Adept at troubleshooting problems as they arise.
