About Acoustic Infrastructure: this exhibition is slated to take place at three sites—in New York City, USA organized by Eyebeam; in Copenhagen, Denmark, in partnership with the DIAS Center for Digital Art, Denmark, and a third venue, over the course of 2016. The Associate will join organizers Morten Søndergaard, Jamie Allen and Roddy Schrock. They will be advised by the Steering Committee, which comprises George Lewis, Barbara London and Douglas Kahn.
Urban space is a sonic infrastructure, encompassing elevator music, mobile phones, car stereos, public emergency broadcast and retail audio systems. This sound is never “off,” and speakers are speaking everywhere. Acoustic Infrastructure seeks to take sound art outside of museums and gallery spaces, embedding it into P.A. systems in public and private spaces, the authority of ‘public address’ takes centre stage, just as it loses its (high) fidelity. A broad program (including a symposium and publications) will draw together practitioners in online art, public sound sculpture, and social urbanism, architecture and infrastructure studies.
