CultureHub (culturehub.org) requests student interns for the ITP Spring semester to assist our research and development of web-based inter-venue production technology. Initiatives would draw from the talents and interests of the students and be guided by ITP mentors and CultureHub technicians.
CultureHub is an incubator for creativity focused on the intersection of art and technology. We connect artists from diverse disciplines and cultures and provide them with environments in which to collaborate, experiment and explore. We serve local and global communities by providing an open space for creative research, artistic exchange and learning.
Our focus on global collaboration as lead to an expertise in networked performance, incorporating artists and audiences across international venues. Teleconference and VoIP systems have served as infrastructure for our projects, but we believe the time has come for a new generation of technology to be put to this task.
For this internship we seek students with experience in JavaScript and an interest in web media (node.js, HTML5 audio/video, WebRTC, WebAudio, WebGL, etc). All media design and production experience is relevant. Interns will work in and outside of CultureHub’s facilities, with focus on scheduled inter-venue research and development sessions between the CultureHub facility and our partnering facilities in Seoul and LA.
Success will be measured through end-of-semester inter-venue playtesting sessions with professional artists, whose feedback will help determine real world potential and needed improvements. By the semester’s end we aim to develop tools that demonstrate the potentials of networked production for the future of live art, performance, and media.
Minimum Qualifications:
– Collaborates well with others in an interdisciplinary team
– Programming experience using javascript
– Someone who is self-motivated and hands-on
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience WebRTC and node.js
– Experience with live production
– Familiarity with media servers
