Part-Time Web Design & STEM Teacher
Summary
Vision Ed, Inc (VEI) is an education non-profit (501(c)3) that works with youth and educators to support authentic learning experiences using technology and the arts, giving the learner control of both design and creation. In doing this, VEI is counteracting deep-seated trends in education. We pay particular attention to our impact on disenfranchised student populations as well as youth who have been failed by traditional education, in New York City and beyond.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to provide in-school web design classes and would like you to join our team!
VEI is currently seeking part-time instructors to teach web design in high school Graphic Arts classes one day a week at a school in the South Bronx. The instructor will be responsible for creating the curriculum collaboratively with a co-instructor in accordance with the needs of the school and under the supervision of our managers. Our focus is on creating an environment that engages those with all levels of experience, encourages independent and creative thinking and builds confidence.
Our instructors are compensated at competitive rates, and those who demonstrate excellent performance will be considered for additional teaching opportunities in STEM subjects and with our partner organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-teach 1 day a week between the hours of 8:30 am – 2:50 pm(5 or 6 40-minute class periods) in existing Graphic Arts classes from late-February to early June, 2016
- Create curriculum for the class, to be submitted to manager for approval
- Maintain regular communication with manager
- Complete written reports detailing classroom activity within 24 hoursof class
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the WordPress web design platform
- Strong background and experience in education
- Experience with teens either in a traditional school environment or within non-traditional teaching environments such as tutoring or camp counseling
- Ability to engage students with varied skill levels in the same group
- Ability to commit to teaching 1 day a week beginning the week ofFebruary 22, 2016
- Proven mastery of classroom management techniques
- Ability to be on time and prepared for class
- Ability to independently get to and from the South Bronx
- Availability to attend staff trainings and workshops as required
- Energy and enthusiasm about working with youth
