Job Description: As part of NYU Gallatin’s initiative to make the most innovative and effective teaching and learning technologies available to our faculty and students, we are looking for two (2) Graduate-level students to serve as Digital Learning Assistants beginning immediately.

This position will work with faculty and students to design and implement pedagogically-driven projects using digital platforms, tools, and resources in order to facilitate collaborative, experiential, and active learning. This position will also assist in constructing and maintaining digital learning resources for the Gallatin School, and help organize events promoting digital teaching practices.

Applicants should be interested in integrating technology and pedagogy for the benefit of students and faculty, both inside and outside of the classroom. Gallatin Digital Learning Assistants will be paid $17.00/hour. In addition, each assistant will receive a laptop, on loan, for the duration of their employment. It is expected that this position will work about 15 hours per week for the appointed semester.  This position reports to Jenny Kijowski, Educational Technologist at NYU Gallatin.

NYU Graduate students in all disciplines are welcome to apply for the position.  Applicants must be currently registered full-time students in good academic standing.

Anticipated Daily Schedule (3 days/week, 5 hours/day)

1-2 hours: consult faculty, create course sites, design projects, conduct in-class workshops when requested
1-2 hours: add content to Digital Gallatin site
1 hour: research
finding new platforms, learning new tools, researching best practices for digital tools in a learning environment
1 hour: troubleshooting, advising students (office hours: in person or online)

Gallatin Digital Learning Assistants will have the opportunity to work closely with some of Gallatin’s faculty, staff and students, and to receive extensive training and experience in a highly marketable skill set.

Digital Learning Assistants will be expected to:

work closely with faculty to integrate technology into the curricula and assignments
train and support them in use of NYU’s digital assets and third-party applications and tools
identify and suggest various forms of technology suitable to meet the goals of each class
attend, participate, and/or lead portions of some class sessions, as requested by faculty
work with students to complete their digital projects
train and support them in use of NYU’s digital assets and third-party applications and tools
hold regular office hours to advise and mentor students
assist them in locating and evaluating media services, research tools, and databases on the Internet
attend events associated with specific courses and Gallatin-wide interests
participate in ongoing training and attend regular meetings with other digital resource assistants
prepare training documents, FAQs, and other ed-tech support materials for students, faculty, and digital resource assistants

Qualifications

Interest and experience in digital teaching and learning
Excellent communication skills
Experience with WordPress, Sakai, VoiceThread, Omeka, Captivate, and other tools, apps & software in an educational context
An exploratory, DIY spirit when it comes to experimenting with emerging technologies
Ability to multitask
Detail-oriented
